Southern California - BF CPR/BLS class

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Hey all,
Being prompted by the "What do to when a rider is injured" thread, I have arranged for a Red Cross Basic Life Support/CPR instructor friend of mine to do a class for those interested.
I have not set a date yet, rather I would like to see if there would be an intrest for this.
The cost would be $10.00 and would probably take 3-4 hours. I am thinking a Saturday afternoon. You would walk away with a Red Cross CPR card and the basic knowledge of what to do in the unfortunate event of witnessing an accident.
Location is still up in the air. If it turns out to be a small group, I could host it at my house and work in my garage. If it ended up being a moderate to large group, I am sure we could find a park to do it at.
So if this would intrest you, please let me know, either by posting here or PM.
Thanks.
Jon
Location, time, and date will be set as I get a better idea of class size, intrest, etc.

I think it's a great idea! I don't need it as I am CPR/AED/First Aid certified to the max, but for anyone who is not, it is really useful information. :)
Not likely to make it, but definitely interested.

Definitely interested. I'm a teacher and need to renew my certs anyway. A Saturday afternoon would work fine, as long as it's not the week of August 4th as I'll be out of town.

At out last club meeting in the NorCal area we had an intense discusssion about CPR/first aid classes after we learned that one rider finished our Terrible Two double Century with a cracked neck vertebrae, (L6).
It was decided to look into training for all club members, especially those who work rest stops each year after year.
I supported it as a man with a serious heart condition had died on a Century I was involved with.

That's a wonderful idea, Johnny.
I usually work Saturdays, but will try to make it.

If ME and Happytime are in, can we ditch the practice dummies for mouth-to-mouth? :D

Put me down for a possible -- my saturday's are pretty booked up for the next 4-5 months, but it all depends on the day.

That would be fun. Unmarried guys only, of course. Sorry, Brian! :p

Yeah I know, but I'm sure the others wouldn't mind. Oh, and instead of rubbing alcohol, the "dummies" could choose between Bicardi and Smirnoff.
Great idea!! I haven't had CPR/First aid training since I left the military. Many years ago.
I'd like to go but it depends on the date and time.
I work every Saturday till 3:30pm.

I am awaiting a reply from the instructor on a hard date. As soon as I get one, I will let everyone know.

That reminds me, can she include AED? I think that's a worthwhile thing to know and was glad when my last instructor threw it in as a bonus.

I know that the American Heart Association includes the AED in their BLS courses, as I am required to carry this one for work. However, I will ask Barb (the trainer) if we will be covering the AED. If you need the BLS for a work requirement, make sure that they will accept the Red Cross CPR card. The hospital I work for will only accept the American Heart Association.
