While I was on my way home from work today (in my car) at the corner of Crenshaw and Carson Street in Torrance I witnessed a bike/car collision. Thankfully the rider wasn't hurt too badly. Dumb-ass rider!
Traveling on the sidewalk against traffic with no helmet. Riding what appeared to be a Wallyworld wanna-be mtb. Car pulled out onto the sidewalk slowly from a gas station intending to make a legal right hand turn. Rider ran right into the passenger side door of the car. Rider's only complaint was her finger, she was jumping around like a jack rabbit, holding her finger. Shaking it etc.
Her hand hit the car while holding the handlebars. No blood. I was on the opposite side of the street.
The view into the gas station is hidden by a block wall that would fully block the view of a Mini, this was a beige Honda and the wall was beige.
Rider was very lucky, driver gave the bicyclist a ride home. I tried to cross the intersection and see if she was OK, but they took off before I could return.
Really dumb place to be riding. I wanted to have a conversation with the rider and tell her why this occured and what she could do to prevent it the next time.
