Great article. The comments following it are interesting as well. It sounds like cycling attitudes are as polarized in Britain as it is here.

The attitudes sound exactly the same. The sad fact is everyone is at fault; drivers, pedestrians and cyclists. No one wants to share the road.

I thought the comments after the article were very illuminating. Bicyclists, in Britain and elsewhere, need to be reminded that if they expect to be accepted as equals on the road, they need to be extra careful about not being unpredictable, self-righteous morons. One idiot biker will erase the memory of fifty responsible riders in the minds of other road users, which apparently includes pedestrians.

The youtube video was hilarious, btw.

The comment I found the funniest was the one about how motorists sitting in their cars create less carbon dioxide than cyclists, because they're not breathing as hard. A new talking point for the global warming deniers -- the obesity epidemic as the answer to global warming!

I don't think I'd ever consider a dude on a bike a hero unless he used his bike to save someone's life. WWII veteran.. now there's a hero. Dude on a bike maybe inspirational, but hardly a hero. Anywho.. just a pet peeve of mine.

The thing about a cyclist putting more co2 into the atmosphere is BS. The amount of co2 in the average breath is actually pretty small. Otherwise mouth to mouth would be a deadly endeavor. Plants need co2, so it's a natural cycle. It's the carbon MONoxide that's the killer.
