Hey,

i am coming to london for about 5 months to study and i would like to have a bike to ride. at home in the states, i ride a sweet little fixed gear conversion that i love dearly. i am considering bringing it along with me on the plane. but, after poking around the internet a bit, this seems really complicated. i am considering the following options:
1- sucking it up and bringing my bike from home which is absolutely perfectly suited to me and my biking preferences and hoping for little fees and frustrations
2- getting a cheap bike in london and selling it back at the end
3- taking the components and wheels from my bike off and taking them -but not the frame- with me and then getting a new frame to throw them on in london.

any advice on this?

check bike prices and availability in

http://www.loot.com/hobbies-interests/bicycles--accessories-and-spares

http://www.gumtree.com/london/bicycles-for-sale_86_1.html

http://london.craigslist.org/bik/

hope that helps

also try e-mail http://www.condorcycles.com/ (London's best bike shop whether you're a courier, city slicker, or P.O.B.)

a good alternative is http://www.brixtoncycles.co.uk/

AVOID Evans(h!te)Cycles - they have a bad reputation and a high staff turn over for very good reasons.
