With the Badger trail now officially open, we wanted to do an overnighter from Freeport, IL to Madison, WI. Has anyone done this trail from beginning to end and like to comment on it? Especially on the situation just south of Madison. Does the trail exist there, or does one take the roads?
I take the total trail to be 52.5 miles. Is that correct?

Thanks, Duppie

Badger Trail is only complete to Paoli/Fitchburg. You will have to find an on-road route to hook up with the Capital City Trail/SW bikepath in Madison (about an eight mile gap). But once you hook up with the Southwest Bikepath, it will lead right up to Downtown/Isthmus. Part of the southwest path may not show up on the maps below as it was just finished last year. But it does go all the way to Monona Bay.

Using County PB/Whalen/PD will get you going in the right direction.

This link will lead you to maps that will help you link up:

Rode from Monticello to the tunnel today (August 9). We had 5 inches of rain this weekend and the trail still looked great. Only one washout. Not bad for the first big rain since the trail was opened. With the hot muggy weather, it was really cool to see fog coming out of south end of tunnel about 9:00 this morning.
