Complete tear of the tibialis tendon that happened in a freak bicycle accident. Just found out today. :(
Anyone else ever experience this? What was the solution? How long did it take to recover? Dr. unavailable is why I am asking here. Thanks in advance for any answers.

Just for benefit of those who, like me, did not know what you were talking about:

Mine has been hurting for about 7 months now. It is the reason I decided to get back into cycling. Walking, running, hiking, and climbing stairs every day was making hurt like hell. I ride my bike to work everyday and it has been getting much much better.

If its a complete tear meaning all the way throught then surgery is your only option but I am not sure thats what happened to you.

My sister's achilles was sliced completely thru. It took surgery and a long slow recovery.

Mine was the tendon pointed to by the word Tibia in the great picture posted above. Was put in a series of casts on July 19th after surgery. Cast removed 2 weeks ago and I have been in PT trying to regain Range of Motion, strength and weight bearing. Was told I could resume cycling today. WOOT! Went straight home and rode for an hour. Affected leg is so weak it's almost funny. My cardiovascular capability is about 5% of before BUT I am riding! Can't wait til tomorrow to ride again!!

Good news, mate. And since you were only off the bike for 2 months, I think you will find aerobic capacity returning very quickly... and even muscle strength shouldn't take too long. Keep us informed on how the recovery process goes.

I hope so! After successfully finishing the Assault on Mt. Mitchell in 2006 and missing it this year I am eager to shoot for 2008.
