The Molteni that sponsored Merckx's team sold fish.
Other interesting sponsors from the not so distant past
Casino - supermarket chain
Polti - vacuum cleaners

Well, look at the nascar sponsors:
Tide detergent, Tyson Chicken, Viagra pills.
Fish and sausage for european racing don't sund that odd to me anyhoo. Have no idea if its true or not though.
peas,
Steve
Not just any old sausage, Italian Sausage. Interesting side bar on Merckx career. He rode for Peugeot, Faema(pasta?), Molteni(sausage), and Fiat. All Italian sponsors excepting Peugeot. That is a little unusual for a Belgian.

In the early 90's there was a professional team in europe (they rode le Tour) that was sponsored by the makers of toilet paper. They also had a car in Le Tour publicity caravan and used to drive round France throwing toilet paper (full rolls of course) out of the window - now that was odd

Sausages and, if I am not mistaken, the owner got in trouble for putting questionable products in his sausages.

Molteni-Arcore Team
'Eddy Merckx's team when he dominated road racing and also took the hour record. Molteni were an Italian sausage maker and Arcore was the city where they were based."

Faema are manufacturers of coffee and espresso machines, primarily of the type found in cafes and restaurants.
And they surely use the coolest font know to man in their logo. The font used on the masthead of Gazzetta dello Sport is a very close second.

What product did Joker make?
Another sponsor, Miko, made ice-cream makers and freezers.
