I currently have a Shimano compact road double crankset (50/34t, 110bcd) with a 10-speed cassette and chain. For cyclocross racing, I'd like to use a single 42t chainring.

I plan on using a jump-stop and outer chainguard, but will there be any compatibility issues between the chainring and 10-speed chain?

I notice Salsa sells a 42t 110bcd chainring listed as "5 through 9-speed compatible". I'm also looking at a Sugino singlespeed (no ramps) 42t chainring.

You might want a smaller ring.

Thanks for the advice, I've just ordered the Salsa cross-guard and Sugino 42t chainring, and will give it a whirl.
