Need to get some input about putting my 6' 2" 215 lb on a 58cm Reynolds DB vintage frame for short rides. I usually ride a 64cm vintage frame and I've noticed the frame construction to be heavier especially the rear stays. Ride route would be flat, no hills. Wheels are original 700c Weinmann 36 spoke double butted, high flange hubs. Let me know. Thanks.
At 215# I would think you are very safe, but you might want to wait for the Retro Grouch to chime in :D

Sounds like you should be fine. I'm 250 pounds and I've got a 1991 steel framed ride on the way. (Maybe a 59 or 60cm? Definitely not a 62 or 64.) Previous owner was 245 when he started riding, and 210 when he hit target weight. He put some heavy mileage on it, on roads that weren't in the greatest conditions, and it held up well.

Vintage Steel frame... probably built like a tank... I would not worry a lick. If you are worried, I'll take it off your hands... ;)

Excellent frame, strong and well built! No worries, especially at 215!

I rode a Peugeot Tri Bike for a few years when I was between 215-230 lbs with no problems. I even added a Carbon Fiber front fork on that bike due to some rust issues with the original fork (Chrome pitting). I love seeing people restoring and riding older bikes. So many were used for one or two years and then put away only to see sunlight when the garage was cleaned out or a kid wanted to ride it.
Had a College Student in last night with a really Nice Schwinn Super Sport from the 80's. I didn't know the frames were that nice on those bikes. This bike was typical of the 80's boom era when folks bought a bike and then parked it after a time. This Schwinn had the original Bar Tape and all of it's Shimano 600 parts still on it. As the young man stated, I can keep up with my buddies on their new Road bikes!

You know, I normally say this over at Classic & Vintage, but:
Where are the photos?

Thanks to everyone for your quick responses. I'll feel more at ease when I saddle up in the near future. Still need to do a bit of tuneup, true the wheels etc. Will post some pics soon.

58 cm seems a bit small! I'm an inch taller, about same weight, and my new vintage Schwinn is a 62cm, although it has a 57cm top tube.

Absolutely no worries whatsoever. At 255lb, I ride my 68cm Keith Lippy R531 frame, built in ~1976, all over creation, and I have never had any problems.

I dunno if you guys would consider this threadjacking...but I was wondering if myself at 6'2" 270lbs is gonna crush this bike I bought this morning.
Here's the link to the craigslist ad: http://spokane.craigslist.org/bik/378385661.html
I'm just getting into riding so i dont know much about it or the bike itself yet. I'm also at work right now posting from my laptop so I can't go check it out.

Not to worry about threadjacking. What size is that frame? One response I received commented on the 58cm frame I was planning on riding. At 6'2" I am aware that the frame is too small but I want the experience of riding a 1960 hand built Swiss frame. Re your Fuji purchase, it looks too small for someone your size. Anyway let's hear from some more of the big boys.

I have no clue what size my Rollfast or Monark comes to but it's longer than the 50s Western Flyer I had before and I think they are faster.
This baby isn't going to break like a Schwinn 10 speed I had in my teens, separating the rear from the crank housing and stretching it like a drag bike at 15 mph...
Man, that was something:eek::roflmao:
I have to look this stuff up.

I'm not sure about the frame size, but I haven't really looked at the bike much yet (busy weekend). I've ridden it about 11 miles so far whenever I've had time and it feels comfortable, aside from the HARD saddle.
I didn't really look into sizing when I was looking at it, just decided to buy it because it's in good condition overall compared to bike I'd seen for a similar price in the past few weeks. I ended up talking the guy down to $85 btw.

Mandangalo, don't think you are going to escape the photos requirement! The CL listing's been deleted, so some of us have no idea what you just got for $85.
By the way, welcome to Bike Forums, and be sure to stop by and check in with the Pacific Northwest forum to say hi to the rest of us :) .

Well I just sold my Nikon d50, so I'm camera-less at the moment :)
I'll be sure to check out the regional forums, though!
