I was wondering if there is a good introductory bike for Road Racing? I'm looking for something that is around $300-$500, preferrably used. Does anyone know of anything specific I should look for when buying a bike? Are there any places that I should look for bikes? I'd appreciate any input at all! Thanks!

E-bay might be your best bet.

A city the size of Chicago should have many places to by a good used road bike. Try the local cycling association websites, buy and sell papers, bike shop notice boards and newspapers. Also, near the end of the season most bike shops will discount, so start looking for a nice new bike and jump on the deal when it goes on sale.
