Bicycle Mechanics - Big ring, small cog noise

When I am in my large front ring (50t - Shimano R700) and small rear cog (11t - Shimano DuraAce) I hear lot of chatter. Shifting is really smooth and precise, but very noisy in this combination. Any thougths as to why?

What kind of chatter? A visual inspection while turning the cranks would probably help most here - is the chain touching the 2nd-smallest cog? Is the chain hopping (a stiff link)? Is the derailer making any weird sudden movements? Does everything look "proper"?

Also, is the chain clean and well oiled?

Is your high (most outboard) RD limit screw properly set??

Do the jockey pulleys--when viewed (carefully) from behind--line up exactly with the center of the chain when you're in the 50/11 combo (and going -- by my calcs -- 75mph!)?

Teeth okay on the 11t cog?

RD hanger straight?

Thanks for the replies already. I am at work right now (should be working) so I can't visually inspect the pulleys, but the chaing, cogset, and derailler are all brand new.

The inspection of the pulleys (I think you got it, but...) was just to verify outer rear derailer travel was adjusted correctly.

Incidentally, that's crap. If you post, you should be standing there--allen wrenches in hand--waiting to do what we all tell you to do. Where are your priorities, man. Go home. Log in. Fix your bike.
