General Cycling Discussion - Everybody's got one, what's yours?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

"Subject: Re: Jerseys to Wear at PBP ---"
"I'm not so sure it is good idea to call to the attention of others the fact that you're an American rider this year. I bought some Canadian cycling attire and am riding incognito. Just look for the guy with the big maple leaf on his jersey in the 84 hour group and chances are it will be me."

I've got both a Stars & Stripes jersey, as well as a older Swiss national champ jersey. I used to kid about the Swiss one being camoflage for riding around here...but then I got hit by a car when I was wearing that one.

I've also been asked whether or not I'm afraid/worried to ride in the Stars & Stripes here...I couldn't believe it! I'm *proud* to wear it!

internationally yours,
Tom

P.S. What's PBP?

Ditto...what's PBP??

I've painted helmets with Red, White, Blue and Stars...I've considered painting my bike to match. I'm currently looking for a big white mid 90's 8 passenger van...that will eventually be emblazoned with big painted flags on the sides...

PBP is Paris-Brest-Paris an endurance race kind of thingy
(that was informative!).

while I'm very proud of where I come from, and more than
willing to fly the star and stripes, I think a bit of Camo
isn't always a bad thing.

Get an Assos Edelweiss jersey, they're so gawd awful ugly
that no one would believe a fashion conscious American
would wear one

I voted wear what you like, it probably won't matter.

I think the issue is not making yourself a target for the terrorists that call france home. The frogs have sheltered all kinds of anti-americans, the most notorious of whom was khomeini. AS for the French, they lost the first world war, and we made it look like a victory, they lost the second world war and even surrendered, yet somehow were accorded status at the final surrender of germany, and now they have thrown their lot in with germany, giving Saddam the hope he relied on in resisting the US, which forced our hand, and have done nothing in my eyes to redeem themselves.

What we need to do is to have an alternative event to PBP, here in the US, denominated in miles, and not arbitrated by a committee of toads.

I thought there was a forum for political rants...

For PBP, wear what you want.

Fashion-conscious American? Isn't that an oxymoron?[1] *grin*

Just be happy it's not an "Edelnuss" jersey; you'd get some interesting reactions...

[1] I'm twenty-two, and one of about five heterosexual males I know who knows better than to wear baggy jeans and a bastetball jersey to an interview. Sheesh...

Wear what you want! Good grief, what the heck?

Look at Lance, he's about the most prominent US citizen in France right now ,and he still lives to ride another day! Sheesh! That guy sounds too paranoid!

If you want to wear red, white and blue and be proud of being a US citizen, go on ahead. I don't think they're really that nasty out there. They just want to see some good sports, from the looks of it!

Good luck dude. Oh- good luck to everyone!

I totally agree with Koffee Brown. I couldn't have said it better myself.

As usual, this poll, like my others is pretty lame......................

However, NO ONE PICKED THE RIGHT ANSWER!

The correct answer is:
The cyclist of course, can wear whatever jersey he wants, and is somewhat clever in thinking a foreign-labeled jersey might be safer to wear than a "U.S." jersey. But actually calling attention to this fact with his big mouth (by posting to the internet) is good reason for him to be ashamed of himself for his gutless decision to purposely identify himself as a Canadian in an international ride.

Isn't that the same thing as:

the cyclist can wear whatever he likes

which 84.6% of the people chose?

If it's not, which of the choices in the poll matches what you said was the right answer? Keep in mind, we can only choose one of the categories...

Um...nah. If ever there was a worthy target for a terrorist attack, it's yours truly riding a bicycle in the all-together.

America does have an endurance race. Its the RAAM. I think thier still running it. Its from Los Angeles to New York. Riders usually complete it in about ten days or so.
What this country needs is news coverage of cycling. You can watch golf on tv, which IMO is like watching paint dry. I rather watch a bike race any day.
As far as the actual topic here, the last I checked the United States of America was still considered "free". Although our freedom erodes more and more each and every year, we can still wear whatever jersey we see fit.

I like a nice reasonable answer to a valid question.

Wear the flag if you want. Just like any other country 99.99999% of the inhabitants of France are nice reasonable people, and that percentage goes up when you factor in a group of cycling enthusiasts. :D
