The lower one has "machined surfaces" that supposedly grip the sole of the shoe better. The other ones are all forged and all painted.

whoopdefreggindo. i can custom machine the surface on a rock. looks like standard Z for me
Heheh searched this forum to find out why too... I have the same question. I have the black one.. still uninstalled (sending it back to shop, they accidentally sent me two lefts :P) Then I saw the other one for higher cost.. couldnt for the life of me tell what the difference is...
BAsically the color, really I suppose :) Maybe the edges are sharper on the silver ones.. whatever.. hehe
The plain Z pedals show use almost instantaniously due to the paint getting scratched up where the Z controls look better longer due to the better finish. The Controls honestly just have an extra finishing step.
Ahh I see. Now in my opinion, I can relax and know that my $106 for 661 DH shoes bundled with Time ATAC Z's were well spend. Just the ATAC Z Control from the same vendor (pricepoint.com) is: $99.98 For the record the non-bundle deal, the regular ATAC Z is just ten dollars less @ 89.99. I suppose if I didn't see the deal, I probably would have gone the extra $10 for the durability.
