BMX - Gear ratios?

From looking around on this site, ive noticed that people run all sorts of varying gear ratios..I see some very large chainwheels, and also some rather small ones.
What is everyone riding, and for wht purpose. (Im guessin theres some range for street, a range for dirt, and some range for parks)

44-16 for racing.

28/10 for everything but racing.
Because I like to keep my chainring small and out of the way, but I don't want to go to small for fear of blowing out bearings in my driver.
Also, all the ratio's pedal pretty much the same. Not exactly the same but pretty much.
So its not like on the fixed gear where if I jump two teeth its a whole nother beast?

Exactly like this, it always goes down accordingly.

Alright, i got those two haros in the bike check thread, and I was looking to upgrade the chainehweel on the one im going to be riding most, so now to decide where to go from here( going to go figure out whats on there in a few)

44/16 most likely, or depending on how new they are 39/14.
seems to be a 16 out back, so ill guess 44/16....what would be a good sized chainwheel for up front? mostly just bumming around, trying some tricks here and there, and maybe a ride down to the park every once and a while?
edit...thats all assuming I keep the 16 out back..I looked it up and it seems like I can go down to 14 outback ont hat hub, and possibly 13...

Don't bother changing out of the standard ratio's. Even one off feels pretty low, remember, these are 20" wheels not 27 or 700cc. Try to go down to a 13 if you can.

I run 25/9 and it's has been perfect, no problems since I got it, nearly 11 months ago

thats what i got and i think that it isnt windy enough. too hard
im getting a 23 or 24 to 9 ratio.

It should feel identical to a 44-16 or whatever else you had on there before...

i had a 39 14 stock. then 36 14 then new sprocket same ratio then 30 11 which i hate.
mines got a 43 16 and i want to lower it just a bit...im riding mostly streets so should i go like 36-15 or lower all the way to a 30-11??
