Hello
I realy want to learn how to build a bike frame, im a dutch bike mechanic i know a lot about the geometry of bikes i can straighten frames and forks, build wheels etc. but thats al relatively easy.
I hope you all have sugestions to where i can learn oldfashioned framebuilding, it seems to have gone extinct in my own country, and there are just about 7 million bicycles in this country, but dutchmen seem to live up to their stereotypical cheapness, and thus bike builders are to expencive to them.

In the U.S., one of the better known schools for learning framebuilding is United Bicycle Institute (http://www.bikeschool.com/) located in a small town in the state of Oregon.
Oregon is not exactly next door to the Netherlands, so maybe there are other schools closer to you. :D

Hello,
Dario Pegoretti of Pegoretti frames lists that he has a frame building school it is in Italy which would be a little easier for you to get to than the USA. Please let me know if you need more information. I don't know how much longer he will be frame building or running his training program as it is rumored that he was very sick earlier in the year.

I would really like more information however my Italian is non existant, maby going across the big pond would be a good idea, guess i just have to do what it takes to become a frame builder, if that includes learning Itallian, or moving to the states, then thats just nessisairy.
please send all the info you can get to my mail adress is: jurjen.vellinga@gmail.com
And thanks for all the help i really appreciate it!
I'd look for a welding class locally. If you already know how to align frames, etc. the only other thing you need - at least to get started on your own - is to be able to cut and weld metal.
Know what you mean about the cheap bike sin Holland. My wife's Aunt and Uncle live in Delft. They have no car and use bikes and trains exclusively for transportation. So do a lot of other people they know. When I visited them I was just shocked how crappy all the bikes were! You'd think if you were going to forgo dropping $30,000 on a car you'd want to spend more than 100 bucks for a bike!

You may want to check out whether there are any barriers to entry. Over here, there is no limit to the ignorance that can lead to someone trying to sell their wares. In Germany I believe there is a signficant certification process. Not that it really makes any difference if you are comited enough. But then again if there is a cert process there is probably an educational route set out also.
