Just a coupla weeks befor seting off on another bicycle trip. I was thinking Id send out some bulk e mailings to keep friends and family informed as to my progress and adventures, as time on public computers permit. Then the other day Beth asked me if I was going to have another message board, like the one i was using last summer. I really haddent thought about that but now I am wondering if that would work out better I know some of you enjoyed reading each others postings as well as the stuff i was writing.
the equipment I am using is basiclly the same as last year the trek 520 I have completly rebuilt just about everything that moves. I up graded to a stronger rear wheel. The fairlane didnt hold up so i got a clyde as a replace ment and built it up with dt 14 ga spokes, got a new seat, one with a hole cut in the center, I did buy a new tent and am hopeing this new and improved version doesnt leak like the old one. I seam sealed all the seams to be sure the first rainstorm will be a test.
I am taking the train to portland or.on aug 7th, my brother is giving me a ride to the station will stay one nightin portland to re assemble the bicycle locate some stove fuel, and just hang out. the following day ILL head to the coast. Some one suggested hy 99 west, ride south to Florance and go east crossing the cascades and again visiting in Bend or. and the deshutes national forest. I will continue into the john day fossel beds and on to baker city and through hells canyon this is where i will see places i couldnt go last year due to the forest fires blocking my route, the bitterroot and lolo hot springs as well as climbing lolo pass.
when i get to miessoula I'LL decide weather to go north to glacier park again and travel the north route. The thinking being that i could take some extra time and stop in some places i didnt visit last summer as well as revisit some of the places i really liked. the other alternitive is to go south and head to yellow stone and through wy and col and travel a bit farther south.
Which ever route i end up on I hope to get to wisconsin for the splended fall season and the colors that I missed last year. I would like to finish up the tour with a trip arround lake michegan.
Someone asked me why tour? and I responded why not? you never know how much is enough till you understand how much is too much
