No matter how mean to you someone is, the person who actually hits first is the person who will get sent to the principal's office.
Cycling corollary:
No matter how aggravating someone's behavior is, the person who actually damages someone else's property (bike or automobile) is the person who will wind up stuck with the bill -- and the legal liability.
I'm with ME Rider on this one -- in a dispute between a 4.5 ton SUV and 8.5 kilo bicycle, the smart money is on the SUV.
Dead cyclists have a very hard time collecting damages from living motorists.
