Road Cycling - Best time of the year to sell your ride.

If I was thinking about selling my current ride in favor of a better one. My thoughts are to hold out over the winter and try and sell it off next spring.

What's the though on the best time of the year to sell a bike?

I'd agree in your neck of the woods spring would be a much better time, or maybe even late-late winter. However, if you're selling your old bike to help finance the new one, it would be better to do it now and take advantage of year/season ending sales. Either way, we're probably only talking single percentage point differences in sale price between now and then anyways.

I think I have some good miles left in it this summer, fall and even winter training before I'm ready to sell anyway. But you're right, with the weather out here, you could ride nearly all year round and could find an active soul looking for a new ride as early as March.

I sold three bikes, all on Ebay, this past spring. I had thought of selling during the winter months but decided to wait til spring. All my bikes received much higher bids than those identical bikes selling just a few months prior. Spring or early summer is the best time to unload...

I'm unsure of your climate but I would say late spring/summer would be the most profitable time to sell.

Best time for selling a bicycle to me would be right now! Interest in bicycling is at its highest right now with the Tour going on and it in the news everyday because of lemonds quest for the 5th straight!

Gee! I didn't know "Lemond" was going for his fifth TdF!!!!! ;->

It's good to see that he came out of retirement! And when did he win his fourth? That guy is a geezer now (well in pro-bike racing years anyways), amazing fitness!

This just illustrates why right now is a good time to sell a road bike. Even people who don't know a thing about bike racing are thinking about the TdF, and that acts as advertizing. Right now, you could probably sell an old Huffy 'road bike' for $200 to some sucker.

Early spring, whenever one is like OHHH it's nice outside, I want to exercise. But make sure it's before they all are like OHHH exercising and being outdoors sucks.
