In a cat. 3/4 race are the points awarded for each category separately? That is, if I come in 11th overall but 2nd among cat. 4s would I earn any upgrade points?

I think the answer is no, your result was an 11th place finish so no upgrade points and no top 10. Might be an area that your local upgrade coordinator has some discretion as to how to apply such a result.

For our area that is a big negative. You finish where you finsh. The advantage of this is when the 3 or 4 race wouldn't have had enough entrants alone for uprade point, now they do.

really? up here if its a combined race you get an overall standing plus a category standing. If they don't that puts the lower category at a severe disadvantage in terms of placing well

then how do the 4's get upgrade points if the 3's are likely to dominate the race? doesn't make alot of sense to me

Indeed! I guess the job of 4s is just to provide enough bodies for the race. We 4s truly are fodder.

I've gotten upgrade points in a 3/4 race as a 4. I guess it's just luck of the race, although we really don't have many 3/4 combined races around here.
