Foo - Pheard, Did You Feel It?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. So did you? Feel the earthquake in SF this morning? Any one else out there on the West Coast feel it?

Whilst I may have joked about the regiater, I hope all are ok. A 4.2 is still a little frightening.

Area police are saying no immediate reports of injury or damage, so everyone is most likely okay, though maybe with out electrical power.

Actually, they're set up for the English Language and can;t identify where a censored word is actually a component of a foreign language word.;)

I hate cheap word filters. For my lousy 25 bucks I should at least get a mediocre word filter. :p

No clue what you just wrote. I only know the lyrics from Mr. Roboto.
I am after all a product of the late 70's and early 80's (HS days).

yep,
shook our whole space, kind of expected it to be higher than a 4.2 as we all were woke up out of our sleep...
Glad to hear all it did was shake and wake you!

I felt the earth move when I met you Jsharr.
Other than that the only movement I felt this morning was when I passed gas.
I feel the earth move under my feet
I feel the sky tumbling down
I feel my heart start to trembling
Whenever you're around
Oh, baby, when I see your face
Mellow as the month of May
Oh, darling, I can't stand it
When you look at me that way
I feel the earth move under my feet
I feel the sky tumbling down
I feel my heart start to trembling
Whenever you're around
Oh, darling, when you're near me
And you tenderly call my name
I know that my emotions
Are something that I just can't tame
I've just got to have you, baby
I feel the earth move under my feet
I feel the sky tumbling down, tumbling down
I feel the earth move under my feet
I feel the sky tumbling down, tumbling down
I just lose control
Down to my very soul
I get hot and cold all over
I feel the earth move under my feet
I feel the sky tumbling down
Tumbling down
Tumbling down
Tumbling down
Tumbling down

So, you're saying you we're 3.5 miles under Oaktown today, then?
Let us know when you anticipate "intestinal issues" and we'll stock up on our emergency rations. Oh, and whip out our atomic blast sunglasses for when Siu posts up the resultant pics of said issues. :p

Yeah, it woke me up, although at first I didn't know what it was. All I knew was that something other than having to pee roused me from my slumbers and I had this strange feeling that I had been rattling around. My son, the night-owl, verified that it was, in fact, an earthquake. He said it only lasted a couple of seconds but was pretty sharp, so I figured it was (a) pretty small and (b) pretty local. Turns out I was right on both counts - I live just a few miles east of the epicenter, and 4.2 is not likely to do major structural damage to any half-way decently made building. News reports here say there was shattered glass and such, but it sounds as if the property damage was limited to stuff falling, not buildings breaking.
On the other, I was living about 50 or 60 miles away from the epicenter of the 1989 Loma Prieto quake. It didn't feel super strong, although it had the bike that was then hanging in my garage swinging pretty good, but it went on for a good half a minute (which seems like an eternity when the ground is shaking under you). As you know, that sucker came in at 7.1 and did some serious, major league damage to some major structures and killed a fair number of people.
BTW, you know how people suggest trying to get under a doorway or some such during an earthquake? Well, come the Big One, all such advice will be useless. I saw some footage from indoor security cameras taken during the nasty quake in Kobe, Japan, a few years ago - in a quake of that size, you are going where the earthquake pushes you - end of discussion. The experts figured out that the lateral forces at Kobe were about 1 g. That means that just standing on the floor during that quake was like trying to stand on a wall. In either case, it ain't happenin'. In other words, Spiderman might be able to pull it off, but the rest of us are ska-roooooood.

Yeah, I think that's mostly what it did. I woke up long before my alarm and was like wht they hey? Then when I read about the "earthquake", I thought ok this makes sense. A lot of my students complained about being up early because it got them out of bed.
