Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I'd love to have a Long Harry, a German variation of the Long John cargo bike. Looks very robust! http://www.pedalpower.de/Lastenrad_Web/lastenfahrrad_longharry.html#

Truly entertaining thread. And thought provoking. And inspirational. Thanks to all who made the time to upload all this great information!

Didn't see this thread until now for some reason. Since I built it custom for a local delivery service, I posted this in the sticky thread also, but it seems more appropriate in here.
I call it The Truck. It is almost 11 feet long with an 8 foot wheelbase, it will carry 12 common plastic tubs for a gross vehicle weight of 500 lbs. The rear wheel has zero dish and uses a special 14mm BMX axle with a 6-speed cluster. The kickstand can be remotely operated by cable with a special pull handle mounted atop the stem. Chain slap is minimized with a layer of UHMW beside the chainstay. Mostly made with materials and bike components rescued from the landfill.

My good lord, that thing is HUGE! And this is a zombie thread - I started this 2 years ago, and have proceeded precisely no further with my cargo bike ideas. What may change if and when I pick up a cargo bike like the one on page one.

The shopping cart bike is really cool. Imaginative.
I still want to build a bike like the big dummy which is possible to turn into a tandem.
purplepeople: Nice truck! What gear range does it have? Also, it's nice to see that someone else realizes how important it is to be able to set the bike on the stand before trying to swing a leg over when loaded. For true cargo bikes,it's the only way.

Thanks. Tranmission runs 22 to 81 gear inches. Low but not super low. The delivery zone is relatively flat so no real need for lower. If necessary, you could go lower without a mid-drive by sourcing an old Suntour Microdrive or Shimano Capreo crankset.

pretty aggressive position... for a cargo bike.
haven't ridden one - but you should be able to find something on copenhagenize, workcycles, etc.
