OK, I've made progress in remembering how to ride. In fact, some weird old habits have kicked it without me knowing it. Today I went to use non-existant downtube shifters. My feet go into the clips automatically sometimes, before I think about it. I hit deep sand today and kept the bike upright easily in a major skid.
But I've also learned some new things, or remembered things I've forgotten:
1. When you see a lot of birds in the air, close your mouth because the air is filled with hard little insects.
2. Look back when you see a car in your mirror, so they know you see them.
3. Delete all classical music containing an organ from your ipod, because it will invariably come on when you're going up a hill and you'll think of your own funeral.
4. Although Frank Zappa is a genius, his classical album "Strictly Genteel" sucks for cadence. It is good, however, as a scary sound track going through swamp lands.
5. Not only is the taste of electrolyte drinks bad, it's the mucousy texture, like it's 40 swigs of backwash.
6. Porcupines move really, really slow.
7. I have 7* gears on each ring. I kept forgetting the top and bottom one. Once I remembered I had "one left", it made shifting on hills WAY easier.
