Mountain Biking - riding with a dog

This might not be the right section to post this but I'm curious if anyone has had any luck trail riding with a dog.
As soon as I connect him to a leash he wants to pull which he won't do on a road bike or walking,also if a smell distracts him he can stop way quicker then me which results in a trip into the hoodie brush for the mounted lunkhead.
The leash is required for local trail access.
I've seen somewhere a device that connects to a rear chainstay and holds the leash away from the bike, has anyone tried this?

KEEP IT ON A LEASH PLAESE!! I get super pissed when coming around a corner there is a huge dog running free. Then they run at you, most of the time to play but not always.


I would never try to tie my dog to my bike. People do it though.

I used to rode with my dog though on road only. Its was fun because he loved it but you gotta learn to control it. Its kind of dangerous even on a road. Mine was a retriever.

Yeah dogs on the trail piss me off too. Ever since I got bit by some ''Sweet little old lady's harmless little dog'' that has "never acted like that before" ...I now see a new use for my bash ring! Around here, people seem to think the leash law doesn't apply to the trail. It's usually stinkin hikers trying to get their mutt some exercise b/c they bought a big dog & put it in a small yard. I have Zero compassion for an "unleashed" animal on the trail.

But I do like dogs. It's not the dogs fault that the owner is a moron.

If you try and ride around a real trail with your dog tied to your bike you and your dog are not going to have any fun. If you have him leashed to your bike in the woods and he decides to go to the left side of a tree and the trail goes to the right meaning you go to the right your both gonna get hurt badly. Him more so then you.

I get pissed when I have to dodge the people that are hiking on the mtb only trail. I came upon a family of five this morning that walked leasurely in front of me until I asked them to move. I felt like since they were on the wrong trail I shouldn't have had to ask. I alost ran over a backpacker on my first trip to that trail. He was nice and moved to the side though and did not get upset.

When I say "pissed" I don't mean I got off my bike and cussed them out and had a grudge for the rest of my ride. I mean I was like wtf in my head and went on about my business.

i ran over a small copperhead...i felt bad but told myself it was probably already dead...when I came back there was a couple people looking at it and it wasnt dead but it wasnt moving alot even with the people so I felt even worse...and still feel bad today

You think thats bad. Try dodging heeping mounds of horse poo. There is a new park that opened up near my house and their is seperate trails for horses and bikes. Sometimes though some idiot wont read the signs and just pick a trail to go on. Its a hassle too because it can block a single track leaving you no choice but to hope its not fresh and go over it. Even bunny hopping over it is hard because its soo big.
