I knew that Big Liberty Blue had a toll due as yet uncollected by my wife.

I am a city guy that married a country girl. I mean country, not suburb or even country close to a suburb, type of gal. This is an odd mix and has advantages and disadvantages. One disadvantage is that she insists on a yard with room for a garden. Another is an infernal love of animals, three dogs and 5 cats. This is a small price to pay for the love of a woman that is far, far out of my mere mortal reach. An advantage is the fact that she is sturdy as a horse. If the world encountered nuclear holocaust cockroaches would die off before my wife developed a cold. My wife also loves working outside. I have not had to mow the lawn in 20 plus years. We have been married for 22 years, but some years we had no lawn to mow.

Well, we are getting older and my wonderful wife made a demand of me. Granted, she paid for our expensive, $100 for the pair, wedding bands, and asks for literally nothing. In the meantime I am buying up computers, electronics and expensive bicycles. Anyway, back to her demand. My wife demands a riding lawn mower. Now look, we have a half acre lot with trees, deck, shed, and a hill that takes up 1/6 of that half acre. Granted, mowing with a normal lawn mower takes 2 hours of straight mowing, but do we really need a riding lawn mower? The answer (http://www.walkermowers.com/index.htm1?section=products).

Dude, YOU need to mow the lawn. It is the manly thing to do. I would never expect my wife to mow the lawn.

Bah! Should I take away a joy of hers just because I am a man and she a woman?? Next you are going to tell me I shouldn't be pregnant.

I grew up in a house with a 1.5 acre lot and had a push mower. Took me 3 days to get it all done. This might be a little overkill, but, it's a payment that must be made to keep she who will be obeyed happy. Once again, everyone repeat it and remember it: If mama ain't happy, no ones happy.

In fairness my mother-in-law is getting older and lives on 5 acres of land. We anticipate mowing that as well in the near future. This was last years model and discounted just above the entry model mower.

How about getting a goat, goat will keep that lawn nice and short, adds fertilizer, can be a source of milk, and when the goat quits working, well, um, becomes dinner.:D

Funny you should mention that. We had two pygmy goats for a bit but our dogs hated them. Our neighbors raise the goats and we gave them a try. They are big business.

My wife mows our yard every Friday, or at least on the weekend when I'm off on a ride. Gotta love her.

I usually do all the yard work (with the exception of her garden), but every now and then she will mow it for me when my back gives out. It just doesn't feel right when she does mow it though. If your reality is that she does the mowing, then by all means get her the riding mower. Especially if you are going to have to do the MIL's lawn later down the road. The only thing I would suggest is to get a canopy for her to ride in the shade:D

JR....buy that thing....I am going to buy a riding lawn mower soon so my wife can mow (she wants to). I personally hate mowing...it take over three hours on a push mower...

I'm all for the riding mower. But the walker might be a little overkill though... that's a heck of a mower. I like TORO's better myself.
