View Full Version : Calling all metro Atlanta, GA folder enthusiasts!
Fellow Folder fans:
I've received one PM, and I've reached out myself to one more, and my girlfriend makes four...how many others out there would be interested in a folder rally? I think it would be a blast, and if enough interest generated, we could meet once a quarter or perhaps once a month, even. I live in Smyrna, with access to the Silver Comet Trail right outside my back door. I could host the first one, and provide cold drinks, snacks, and all-important rest room facilities afterwards! A rotating host basis would be great, as I am sure everyone knows good places to ride in their particular areas/neighborhoods. Would like to see a public response here, but you can also PM me for email and phone numbers. Who wants to be a part of the fold? ;)
I am in Tampa FL currently finishing a Masters degree. Shortly after that I am taking a one month vacation out of the country and shortly after that I will be being trained for 13 weeks. Shortly after that I have to work for one year without any vacations, BUT ONCE ALL OF THAT IS OVER, I will be willing to even fly to a folder event, even it it's with 10 people or less.
Count me in for the #2 event.

I'd be interested, and when my schedule settles down in a few weeks, I could host one here in southeast Atlanta (East Atlanta, Glenwood Park, or Grant Park would all be nice starting locations for rides).

Don't have my folder yet but expect it anytime and would be interested! BF or Swift will be mine.

Carl, my BF came in last night. My Gal Friday is on a Swift. Can't lose, either way! What part of town are ya in?

Got mine last week and already had it on two quick group rides in Dallas, Tx. Bike did fine but it's tough on the hills takes a little more work to get up the hills than some of the full size bikes. Will you be at the Silver Comet this weekend? That's the start location?

We're on, at 11:00am on Sat, the 11th. Publix Shopping Center at the corner of South Cobb Drive and East-West Connector. Park near the E-W Connector and Burger King, that's where the trail extension is. Afterwards for lunch, Jospeh and I thought a burger and a brew would be nice at the Vinings Grill (not as fancy as it sounds, more like a neighborhood pub). I'll be on an orange Bike Friday.
Hope we get a nice turnout, may be as many as half a dozen, if all show up!

My fiance and I are planning on being there. I'll be on my Raleigh Twenty and I'm getting my Raleigh Shopper ready for her to ride (the Shopper isn't really a folder, but the same basic frame as the Twenty).
Very nice turnout today for a sweltering summer day with seven total, and a few people RSVP'd who couldn't make it but will try to get to future rides. We could easily be a dozen, next time out. I was pleased to check out the other folders represented: a couple of Raleigh's, my first peeks at a Downtube and Citizen, another Bike Friday, and my Gal Friday would have been there with the Swift if she hadn't had another conflicting appointment. I meant to take my digital camera and even had it in my jersey pocket at one point, but removed it for some reason. Luckily, Larryfeltonj took some shots, and he should be posting them. We had a leisurely lunch afterwards at the Vinings Grill and swapped stories over burgers and beer (for some of us). A good time, that we are determined to repeat!!!!:D:D:D:D:D:D

Yep it was a lot of fun. I couldn't find time to get the photos up today, but I hope to correct that tomorrow.
I look forward to our next ride.
I am in Roswell with a Brand new Downtube IX full suspension and would be up for the 2nd ride. I didn't see this forum for the first ride but would go for the silver comet anytime.

This reminds me folks that September is just around the corner so (for those who are interested) we should start thinking about which Saturday will work best for everyone's schedule. Personally, I think we should target later in the month (and early in the day - 10am?) to beat the heat...but I'm open to whatever. Also, do we want to do the Silver Comet again, or pick another trail?

September is fine with me although I will be doing the Bike Atlanta on the 15th with my new Downtube. I will do the 45 mile ride if anyone else wnats to go see the link below.

Hey atlskw, welcome to the fold! I myself will be riding a folder from Pittsburgh to Washington, D.C. from Sep 19th through the 27th...and to top it all off...heading to Jacksonville, FL the day after I return to ride the North Florida MS150 with friends on the 29th and 30th. I suggest Sep 8th, but if that doesn't work for everyone, have fun and take some pics on #2! Silver Comet is good, we could always meet further down the trail, such as the Silver Comet Depot (where we turned around last time) and ride further west. I am also up for another route, if someone wants to scout or plan that.

I'd be willing to do our gathering on a Saturday other than Sept 15th so that folks will be able to do the Atlanta Folder Ride w/o having to miss Bike Atlanta. I'm reluctant to suggest that we use the Bike Atlanta Event for our Sept Folder Ride for two reasons:
1) this is a fee-based event and I think we should keep the Atlanta Folder Ride free of charge
2) 45 miles is some serious riding and would leave some folder enthusiasts out of the mix
As we work to build the Atlanta Folder Ride (I hope that one day we have a regular group of 20 or so riders) we should try to be as inclusive as possible. I think this means starting out with leisurely rides of 15-20 miles free of charge.
Any thoughts?

So it seems we're on for this Saturday, Sept 8th at 10 AM at the Mavell Road entry as described in this link you sent

Yup, only I don't know the trail that well (to pick a point further west) so let's just stick with the starting point (Mavell Road) this time around.

This link lists all the trailheads, and directions to each one (pull down at the bottom). If you guys want to start at Mavell, that's fine with me. But the Floyd Road trailhead is very easy to get to (our turn around point last time). Straight down the same road you were on last time (E-W Connector) when we started from Publix, and take a left at Floyd Road at the big Wal-mart Super Center and it's a few blocks away.

Good ride today guys and glad to have met you and your Honey's. I made it home in time for the delivery of the Refrig so all was good on the western front.
Let me know of the next ride. I think Larry was thinking of a place or we can do the Alpharetta Greenway

Or the Rferside roads here also.
See ya then

It was great meeting you, too, and thanks for the loan of the wrench! Glad the refrigerator delivery worked out.
The roads on the river sound good to me. I'm mapping out one of the possible routes I mentioned (Avondale or Kensington MARTA station to the little lake at Avondale Estates), so we can decide over the next few weeks what to do next.
