been with this girl 3 years and decided to break it off. ive been dumped on my whole life so when i broke the news to her i did it with no emotion and she thought it was cold of me but ive hardly if ever cried unless it was in physical pain. it hurts but im just not feeling sad about it:(

Maybe that's good that you come off as a truly cold hearted and thoroughly unlikable dood, it might help her to get over you more quickly and move on (and remain out of your hair).. -which is much better than having her calling you 27 times a day and leaving an average of five teary and heart broken viocemails - which ends up driving you to smoke and drink, and you get cancer. . and eventually you'll die - and it won't seem like such a bad thing by then.

Hate to say this but I have to agree with you with this one. (Agree with Red house? What is happening to me??)
I broke off a 3-year relationship a couple years ago. I wouldn't say I wasn't sad, but it was more of a relief than anything. Don't feel bad for not feeling bad. ;)

I agree with Red as well, hopefully this will be better for her.
I'm also sad that though you say you're not sad, you are apparently sad about not being sad, and that you feel the need to be so cold hearted, perhaps as a response/revenge against having been dumped on? Anyway, that's sad.
I hope that one day you'll enjoy being sad, and will no longer be so sad that you're not sad.
You two are both better off then, cause now you can move on with life.

Exactly. Lingering isn't healthy for anyone. Are you throwing more energy into building cool, new bikes, Sled?

Getting hurt toughens you up a bit. You learn that you don't want to ever feel that pain ever again so you automatically push it away from you. I know he cares. He has to. At one point he loved her. It's a self defense mechanism that happens after you hurt so much.
Don't feel bad that you aren't sad. You handle things your own way and this works best for you.
I do the same. I find it easy. Let it go. Be done with it.
But inside my heart is a different story. And if I let it take over me, I'd be nothing. Be strong. For your own sake.

Exactly, you don't exactly want to end up like this cranberries song.
If you, if you could return
Don’t let it burn, don’t let it fade
I’m sure I’m not being rude
But it’s just your attitude
It’s tearing me apart
It’s ruining everything
And I swore, I swore I would be true
And honey so did you
So why were you holding her hand
Is that the way we stand
Were you lying all the time
Was it just a game to you
But I’m in so deep
You know I’m such a fool for you
You got me wrapped around your finger
Do you have to let it linger
Do you have to, do you have to
Do you have to let it linger
Oh, I thought the world of you
I thought nothing could go wrong
But I was wrong
I was wrong
If you, if you could get by
Trying not to lie
Things wouldn’t be so confused
And I wouldn’t feel so used
But you always really knew
I just wanna be with you
And I’m in so deep
You know I’m such a fool for you
You got me wrapped around your finger
Do you have to let it linger
Do you have to. do you have to
Do you have to let it linger
And I’m in so deep
You know I’m such a fool for you
You got me wrapped around your finger
Do you have to let it linger
Do you have to, do you have to
Do you have to let it linger
You know I’m such a fool for you
You got me wrapped around your finger
Do you have to let it linger
Do you have to, do you have to
Do you have to let it linger
Instead, he should be more like this No Doubt song.
You and me
We used to be together
Everyday together always
I really feel
That I'm losing my best friend
I can't believe
This could be the end
It looks as though you're letting go
And if it's real
Well I don't want to know
Don't speak
I know just what you're saying
So please stop explaining
Don't tell me cause it hurts
Don't speak
I know what you're thinking
I don't need your reasons
Don't tell me cause it hurts
Our memories
Well, they can be inviting
But some are altogether
Mighty frightening
As we die, both you and I
With my head in my hands
I sit and cry
Don't speak
I know just what you're saying
So please stop explaining
Don't tell me cause it hurts (no, no, no)
Don't speak
I know what you're thinking
I don't need your reasons
Don't tell me cause it hurts
It's all ending
I gotta stop pretending who we are...
You and me I can see us dying...are we?
Don't speak
I know just what you're saying
So please stop explaining
Don't tell me cause it hurts (no, no, no)
Don't speak
I know what you're thinking
I don't need your reasons
Don't tell me cause it hurts
Don't tell me cause it hurts!
I know what you're saying
So please stop explaining
But both are pretty ****ing fruity, so he's better off without either one I guess.

Be careful, okay? Give yourself some space before you become buddies again. That's real hard to do because things will usually end up being brought up and the struggle will begin again. That will add to your pain and of course to confusion.
And don't forget there is a difference between being friends and just being cool with each other.

The last line says it all. If you don't feel sad about it, then it sounds like you definitely did the right thing. It must have been dead a long time to get to that point.
The only better thing is to feel like you were just set free from prison after breaking up. That happened to me with a girl I was with for 2 years once. God it felt liberating to break up.

Dude... Guys and girls can rarely ever be just friends.. Especially if you had the slightest interest in the past.. Give it mucho space..

totally agree, friendship right away is often an excuse to stay in someone's life because one didnt accept the break up.

I've tried being friends with ex's, and it's never ended in anything except disaster.

Girls and guys can be friends. I mean, we're all friends with Chipcom. Wait, he's not a girl is he? Note to self, stop believing everything you read in Foo....

I have never bought into the friends thing. At least one half on the former couple is looking for it to be more than just "friends". Often it is the one that was broken up with, rather than the one that did the breaking up.
