Introductions - KC newby

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Hi, I'm Tim and I ride in the northland of KC MO. Recently started hitting Smithville Lake trails and love them. I'm a "clydsdale" I guess because I weigh around 235 - I'm not really trying to lose weight though. I ride for fun and fitness. I also lift weights about 4 times a week. I'm currently riding my mountain bike on pavement about 70 miles a week - some weeks a little more. I tend to wipe out on dirt so tend to avoid it. ;)
Would like to learn about gear, new places to ride, and people to ride with. In the summer my son's are home form school so I have riding partners - but they are about to head back to collage.

Hello JeeperTim, there are some great members lurking in KC, and you might want to check this thread for some ride partners:

You could also check out the regional forums.
Here where I live, there are classes in how to ride a mountain bike--nothing like that in KC? I would hate to buy a mountain bike and not learn how to handle it on dirt--isn't that the whole and entire point?
Welcome to BF!

I do pretty good on it - have had it about 15 years. I just like to go a little too fast - like the breeze in my face. ;)

I managed to do about 30 mph downhill yesterday doing two trips around the local reservoir :) . There are about 4 stretches where one can develop quite a good speed. And I did :D .

I did about 50 miles yesterday - my best yet. I felt really good - like I could have gone another 20. :) Then I took about a 4 mile walk last night to work some soreness out - haha. I saw very few people and really got to run my own pace. The weather was perfect. If every day of riding was like that - no telling how much I would ride.
