View Full Version : Post your ride routes!
Let's see everyone's every day routes, the ones you use the most.... my "up north" one is in the "should I ride", so I won't repost it.
If you've never done this, it's really easy. Go to http://www.mapitpronto.com/ or a similar site. For mapitpronto, at least, you just zoom into your area and click on your route. Make sure and have "follow road" checked. You can turn on the elevation at the bottom of the page. I like this site the best because its elevation seems less noisy and not so compressed so that it looks like a mountain range. After you're done, you can save your route and email it, copy the link, or return and modify it.
It's a lot of fun.
I couldn't get the map to post; so here is the link.

I have quite a few around town routes from ~12->20 miles. I tend not to do the same route twice, and enjoy finding new routes!

I'm excited to be up there! I move to Champaign the first week of August. The first thing that stikes me about riding there is that it is SOO flat...

I'm still riding "laps" up & down my 1/4 mile long gravel driveway for now. I ride 4 laps (2mi)every morning. It's probably equivalent to riding at least twice that far on smooth pavement time/effort wise. Not much but I gotta start somewhere. I did venture out down the road about 1 mile away to another road last Saturday and attempted to climb a big hill there. I made it just over half way before turning around. One day I'll concur that mountain! Come to think of it...Hopefuly one day that "mountain" will be a hump in the road:D

Yeah its pretty flat but has a good amount of wind (why they built wind farms right outside of town heheh)
but its not too flat..its more gradual inclines with some sudden monster hills.
Thats funny! your moving to champaign! i just moved form Dallas after 10 years (from illinois originally).
we will have to ride for sure!! I've been driving to indiana quite a bit to ride with tom. we could always car pool! hahaha :)

Here my milk run. I think it comes out to just over 33 miles when I ride it. I leave my house and ride over to the MUP and ride that both directions then home to the house. The hills are pretty mild on the trail so it's a long but easy ride.

Short but all light hills.

These are my two ones now. First is my pretty much daily commute that I do now once day for around 17 mi. I hope to do it twice soon for around 33 miles.
http://www.mapitpronto.com/index.cfm?fuseAction=routePlanner.viewDBRide&rideID=521
This is my newer longer week end and casual ride that I just started. Not as hilly as the commute which goes in and out of the river vally, this one stays pretty flat near the river and then slowly goes up on 47 before going slowly down.

Here are my favorite routes, the first is the WOD trail, an old railroad line from Washington D.C to Cumberland Md. and the second is the C&O Canal to Cumberland and was used to pull freight boats by horse between DC and Cumberland. From Cumberland you can now take the new Allegheny passage to Pittsburg i think it is and then to Ohio! Doing the Pittsburg run next summer:

Good riding!

This is my primary route that I will ride during the week. 21.3 miles and typically do it between 1 hr 15 mins and 1 hr 30 mins. It's an easy loop with light traffic. When I want to go to 35 miles I cross Southside Blvd and go around the University of N. Florida.

Becky, you have a big hill! 200 feet up! But it looks fun* going down...
Becky's site has a calorie counter on it!
27 mph going down :) I can't climb the steep part (yet).

This is most of my downtown ride, Mapmyride doesn't allow you to put two waypoints in the same place, so i order to keep the map moderately accurate, frrim the end of the loop you go back whence ye came.

There are places where it's on high traffic urban streets, except for a short section on Avenue Road, over the 401 highway. the high traffic streets have bike lanes. What I find interesting is that I actually enjoy riding on some of these streets, where I hate driving on them. One of the streets is called Russel Hill, it's a moderate climb, starting around Kilberry, but going down the south side, it's pretty stiff. Tried the climb once (it's another street 1 block East, that's even steeper) , and I would rather go 10km out of my way then to repeat that mistake. Totals around 45K, future attempts will probably contain at least one break around the middle, although I might take more, depending on the temperature and weather....
The second is my daily training ride, it's about 15K I want to extend it soon, to about 20K.
http://www.mapmyride.com/ride/canada/on/toronto/638703516
Actually I have a different route I would like to try, maybe on Sunday Afternoon, it's about 20K, but it's not on mapmyride.

Went from Ft. Snelling down the Mississippi to downtown St. Paul (flat tire on the way), saw the American Queen riverboat up from New Orleans, then back upstream along the river all the way to downtown Mpls. There I had lunch with the Domestic Associate while she worked Saturday. Then it was back downstream the Mississippi to the destination.
The break at the 25 mile mark let me cool off and recover, but when I went back at it, my legs weren't up to my body's demands. I started feeling stress in the muscles BEHIND my knees during climbs, so I took it easy the rest of the way.

We should do so. Are you still planning on doing the M'lax loop this Sept? I'm working the afternoon shift now, and haven't had the motivation to get myself out on the road in the mornings yet.
I did 15 miles this evening as a "recovery" ride, though some of the hills made it feel more like a "kick-em-while-they're-down" ride... All kidding aside, it was really a pleasant country road ramble: forests, cornfields, dairy farms, and not too much traffic.

Images are from yesterday's ride: Crosby Farms near Ft. Snelling, and my faithful steed overlooking the Mississippi in St. Paul.
Yes, I'm still planning on Mille Lacs, and I'd love it if other people did it, too. I haven't been back up north for a week to grab the flyer. Maybe I'll get up there tomorrow.

I've been enjoying www.mapitpronto.com, entering some of my rides in. In searching within 100 miles of River Falls, I've found primarily Clyde-posted routes: mine in RF and Mpls, solveg's near Mille Lacs, and caincando's near Rochester.

It would be nice if the elevation graph could be compressed, but overall it's quite an easy interface. I had trouble panning when making long routes, where I would have to stop recording, then drag the map to pan, then resume recording. Here's the workaround: while recording, hold the space bar down to pan.
I found a few elevation glitches in my Cannon Valley Trail map, but nothing to ruin the day. There are a few spikes along the way that just don't exist on this very flat route.

Not so sure of the accuracy for elevation gain, (there's an odd spike in there on the elevation profile, and it doesn't coordinate with any actual hill) but it's a fairly rolling hilly ride. Somewhere around 1700' seems closer to what it really is.
It's the Flying Wheels Summer Century, 1/4 century route from this year. Me, KT, and our friend Sharon rode it yesterday in the lovely summer drizzle.
