I've noticed several Black and White American (USA) flags during this years tour. I'm curious if anyone knows what it is supposed to mean? Is it an anti-war protest or anti US cycling or just flags without color? Any of you guys know?
The color on your TV is broken.

"Hi. I'm an American. I LOVE our flag and I don't think that people of other nationalities actually HAVE flags."
wtf?

Don't forget to fly some fighter jets over every sporting event you have. :D

Predictable is what it was. Take an honest question and take the opportunity to take a cheap shot at America. Im sure an Iraq post isnt far behind.
PS...That flag is pretty cool.

Yes, I admit our flag (I am from Brittany) which is of quite recent design (mid 1920s) was probably designed with the US flag in mind. It was created by separatists who wanted to separate from France, the bands representing the modern 9 "counties" of the region and the 11 ermines representing the historic symbol of old Brittany.
The flag is very common along the route of the Tour as cycling is very popular in this western part of France. Our favorites were Robic, Bobet, and Hinault among many others.

Yeah, between Brittany and Flanders (the big yellow flag with the black lion), that pretty much covers the cycling crazy fans of that area...add in the Basques, and it's a party.:D

Sorry, didn't mean to offend you. I'm not some stupid american, I am american but I'm not stupid. I'm watching the tour online because I don't have tv and needless to say all of the background scenery is sort of blurry. Perhaps if it was clearer then I could've realized it was something other than a "black and white american flag". Some people just seem to like to act like *******s out here.

really...and ours is original?
... and the 11 ermines representing the historic symbol of old Brittany ...
I knew the French were weasels!
There's two other flags in the tour which bear a similarity - the Basque flag and the Union Jack. The Basque flag was very prominant in the Pyranese, though it was nice to see the Union Jack there a couple of times, as well.

this apparently is a pre-revolutionary American flag. I guess it was only the stars that were original.
