Foo - Oh noes!!! My poor tree!

One of the reasons I bought my house was the huge globe willow in the front yard. I love the shade and I love the way it looks. It gives my house a distinct look among the rest of the cookie cutter houses on my street. Well, about a month ago about 1/4 of it suddenly lost all it's leaves. I pruned the hell out of it and bought a tree treatment product which I was planning to apply tomorrow but last night I came home from a camping trip to find half of it (the good half) laying on my roof!!!!! Now I have a half dead half of a tree. I have a tree company coming to check the damage and evaluate the danger of keeping the tree, but right now it seems as if the smart thing to do would be to cut it down. Even if I can get it to recover, it's gonna be funny looking for a long time. I can't begin tell you how bummed I am.

Yep. The thing sheds sticks like crazy. My neighbor, who has to clean it's sticks off his lawn, always complains about my "garbage tree". I try to pick them up so he doesn't have to deal with it as much, but it's hard to keep up. The funny thing is, the part that hangs over his lawn is the only part that's intact and healthy.

When I bought my house, there was a huge, beautiful ash tree in the front yard. It shaded the entire front of the house, and it was one of the reasons I bought the place. Had the same experience as you, unfortunately. The tree's gone now, and the house looks very different as a result. The only positive is that I put in two new trees, that are starting to come into their own. No substitute, but at least it's more greenery.

I have a neighbor with a pecan tree. It is constantly dropping limbs in my yard and I got pecan trees sprouting from places where pecans should never sprout from!

I just had the same basic thing happen to a bradford pear in my yard. Not only did it hit the house, it broke several major branches on an ornamental crab apple next to it.

Sadly that all the really nice trees grow so slow. I would love to have more oak trees in my yard, but cannot afford a big one and cannot wait for a little one.

That's when you dress up in dark clothes, blackout on your face, and crawl over to your neighbors house at 3:00 am with a saw.

I feel your pain, see my thread on my tree, it is tough when one of your favorite trees has a meltdown. Fortunatly my tree will recover.

Hope you can salvage your tree and it comes back well.

That is terrible, i love my tree's in my yard this might give me nightmares.

I took my son to help prep my parent's summer place (they live in FLA) prior to their annual arrival. The usual stuff: raking, cleaning, fixing odd things, turning on the electricity and water.

While cleaning up the yard, he found an acorn that had spouted and had grown about an inch. I showed him the mature oak that it came from. He said: I shall call it 'Harvey'.

He put it in a large pot and watered Harvey regularly. Late this spring, Harvey was planted in the yard and is about a foot tall.

I hope he keeps watering it...

Though I'm sure my kids would get a kick out of that, I don't think I'll be in the house long enough to enjoy the shade. I'll know in the morning if my tree will get to stay.
