I'm renovating an old italian road bike (late 50's/early 60's vintage) that came with Fiamme tubulars but was switched out to 27" clinchers back in the 70's. The bike has Mafac centerpulls (they're labled "Dural Forged" but have no other markings other than the Mafac name). I'd like to build a 700c wheelset for the bike. Does anyone know if the Mafacs will have sufficient reach for the 700c wheelset? I'm assuming the original tubular rims would have been 700c, but does anyone know for sure? Thanks for any info.

If you can move the brakepads down 4mm, they will work for 700c rims. There never were 27 inch tubulars, so the originals were 700c.

Yes,I have Mafac centerpulls on several of my bikes and they all have 700c rims.27" is an american standard, Europe uses 28" = 700c for men's bikes and sometimes 26" for the ladies and kids.Mafac being french is intended for 700c even if the reach can be sufficient for 27".

Yes, should work. What's the bike? Mafacs on an Italian bike is unusual, though I've had a few...

Oh, the Dural Forge were just an earlier version of the Racers.

My daughter's Ficelle had Mafrac Racers and 27" wheels when I pulled it out of the hopper at the dump. When I mounted 700c wheels the brakes adjusted with no problems.

My bet the brakes were replaced, mid 50's would have been Mafac Top 63's. What kind of levers? The brakes should work with no problems, but original I bet were Universal.
