Do you also get the the Scotch Blue Painter's Tape commercial? A handsome couple paints their house using the blue tape and then start dancing around in happiness.

If I see that again, I'm going to Home Depot, I'll find that tape, and I'll murder the first person I see.

We had 3 new Saabs in the 1990's. Two were essentially lemons, the third was more reliable but no bargain. I wouldn't personally EVER fly in a Saab jet after that, but that's me. Fortunately for you the cars come with a nice fat bumper to bumper warranty.

You'll need it. Enjoy the car! Actually we LOVED our Saabs, but threw in the towel on them. Hope yours is more reliable. If it is you'll also love the car.

I've had mine for 50k mi now, the only thing that has ever really gone wrong with it was the fuel pump died...which wasn't so bad considering it had about 100k on it by that point.

Also, it must have been born from the slowest jet evar.

Good ol' boys around these parts sight their deer rifles in on SAAB and Volvo headlights.

The car and aircraft company split a few decades back. Your Saab is more closely related to an Opel (euro brand Chevrolet) than anything else. It's marketing B.S. at it's finest.

GM will dump Saab or just shut the brand down. I'll be astonished if you can buy a Saab in the US within 5-8 years. Sadly they have become rather irrelevant in today's automotive world. The Saabs that we owned from 1993-1997 were innovative, lovely cars. The ensuing years have brought cars from VW's to Acuras that eat their friggin lunch while Saabs have remained mired in designs that look a decade old. Add to that reliability that can charitably be characterized as spotty, and you have a recipie for failure. But they do make the most annoying commercials. That's something.

Yeah, someone would really buy a Saab and brag on bikeforums that it was born from jets...

I love my 2004 SAAB.....after 5 tows in 60 days when I first bought it..and then the tranny that failed..all warranty work.....not sure if I'd go back..but actually the 9-5 model has proved to have greater than average reliability over the years...the 2002 9-3's were great cars, with GM and the complete make over in 2003 though..I'd stay away from anything between 2003 and 2004..the 2006-07's are getting better.

Great cars to drive....not the most stylish interiors..but exterior styling I think is nice..mine has now been trouble free for at least 9 months...KNOCKING ON A HUGE BLOCK OF WOOD...

Good luck..what model/ year did you buy?

The last Saab was made in 1993.

These are super cool, though:

If you want a real aircraft-related car get a Mitsubishi. They manufactured the Zero, among other aircraft, during WWII.

I'd be too worried that the first time I drove to Corpus Christi it'd swerve off the road and crash into the Lexington.

Or a Rolls-Royce. They still make aircraft engines.

Ya know, having one with 115k on the odometer myself, I must say, since that add campaign 'took off', folks seem to actually believe it. 'Course having the Saab 340 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saab_340) in service with local airlines doesn't help.

Unless it's a 9-2X, in which case it's basically a rebadged Subara Impreza wagon.

That pretty much sums up GM (and Ford). I would bet money that they will be bankrupt and bought in the next ten years.

What happened to Chrysler will happen to the other two.

The last real Saab-made Saab was made then. (prior to their acquisition by General Motors)They have been GM vehicles since then.

I wonder if Volga is interested in buying GM?

EDIT: Ha! Check this quote from Wikipedia:

"In early 2006, GAZ signed a deal with DaimlerChrysler (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DaimlerChrysler) to acquire the tooling and intellectual property rights for the Dodge Stratus (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dodge_Stratus) and Chrysler Sebring (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chrysler_Sebring) mid-size cars, which will enter production in Russia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Russia), presumably under the Volga brand."

Man, how far the American automakers have fallen...
