i had an old steel road frame, a peugeot from the early 80's that got stolen. i really loved the frame, and have only come across one like it since then, but i was broke and couldn't buy it. anyway my question is, why don't road bikes have drilled frames very often? are they hard to make or something?

What do you mean by "drilled"? Do you mean lugged and brazed steel frames?

Why aren't they made anymore? They are but mostly by custom makers. They are typically heavier than Aluminum or carbon frames so they don't appeal to racers or performance riders. They have become fringe items only appealing to those who like them for their tradition or to riders not interested in the fastest, lighest or highest performance bikes.
