I have been reading the forum for a couple of months and you guys have given me a lot of encourgement. I am 49 and a year ago I was 431 pounds. I am now about 374. My wife and I bought Giant Cypress DX's about a month ago. The first ride was 2.5 miles and I thought I was going to die. Last night we did 11 miles (our previous longest ride was 7 miles) and it was great. We did this in 1 hour. My knees and legs were a bit weak this morning but now feel OK. I was not exausted at the end of the ride. My goal is to ride the MS150 next year. We are really enjoying biking. It is really amazing how fast your body adapts to being used for something other that TV.

Welcome aboard Dan. My first ride was a couple of miles as well. Afterwards, I came home lathered my knees in Flexall 454 and curled up into a ball.

Happy trails!

Sounds like you are on the right trail Dan. But you have alot of work to to do shuttup and ride!:D

One partner I used to ride with was 480 down to 230 as he fell in love with cycling. He started doing double centuries (200 miles) as well as centuries (100 miles). You can do it too, Man!

Heck 11 miles? I think the MS rides are 60 for two consecutive days. You'll kill a 60 miler 3 months from now at the rate you're going!:D

Remember some recovery food and exceed your distance by no more than 10% a week to avoid injury and exhaustion.
