Just got back recently from a trip to Cambodia with my Bike Friday Tikit. For those who dare, cycling in Phnom Penh is surprisingly not as crazy as expected. Here is my link if you are interested to find out more about Cambodia.

How did you get a green one? Their website says they are producing only black to start.

Yup, that bee-hive styled building is the famous Central Market built in 1930s. Lots of cheap stuff there - DVDs, Tee shirts, branded backbags, etc. For eg, "Northface" backbag goes for about US$10-15. Of course if you are into fried spiders, crickets etc, you can find them there too. Don't ask me how they taste...

To be honest, I did harbour some thought about giving those "yummies" a bite but chickened out upon closer inspection.

To be fair to the Cambodians, their food is actually quite nice if you like Thai-Chinese-Vietnamese. Seems to be a combination of those flavors. Rice and fish are their staples but becoz of the French colonization, baguettes with pate are served everywhere!

50 -70 cents US only. Slightly more if you want spiders :)

I was in Phnom Penh back in late 1995 and had excellent food there - one small place near the river served baguettes with minced-meat filling. I've no idea what the meat was but it was delicious!

I've eaten chocolate covered ants. I've eaten rattlesnake. I've eaten ceviche (raw fish eyes and guts). But the mere thought of eating one of those huge spiders made me shiver.

I know this is a folding bike forum, but I cant help affirming Giskard's point that there are GOOD food available in Cambodia. Great restaurants esp French and Italian that are quite cheap. At Happy Herb Pizza, you can order "grass" as a topping! Usually, abt US$6-10 per pax is heaps at most places.

I love the Lazy Gecko, an Australian owned backpackers cafe by Boueng Kok Lake. Their awesome burgers with beer start from US$3.50 (best in Phnom Penh, imo)! Also, their cocktails start at US$1. What a great place to hang out!

OK back to foldies, there are a couple of bike shops in PP. Their China-made foldies are about US$60--70 each. Not sure about the quality though but I know it moves and can carry 2 people easy. Anyone keen? :)

I seem to remember that also being a backpacker guest house with a mossie problem because of the lake which was a breeding-ground for the blood-thirsty wee critters.

Yup Giskard - depending on the season, the backpacker area around the lake can be full of mozzies. Best time to go is Dec to Feb where it is the dry & cool season. PP is abt 22-24c in the days and a cool 18 at nites.

That said, I was there in June and didnt notice the mozzies too much :)

Just for the record, I own a Brompton, Strida, Dahon Speed 8, Speed Pro and the latest is the Tikit. So I'm not "compensated" by BF or any bike company :)
