Just an FYI if interested....

I do have Eddy Van Guyse, the stage announcer for Super Week events, scheduled to be in-studio for a live interview on the show today at 3:30. We'll be talking about local bike racing and Super Week for a bit.

Remember, he was one of the evil Italian Cinzano riders in the movie, Breaking Away.

Cedarburg race tonight....

Hip, stick a CO2 cartridge in his spokes!

Not sure I'll catch the interview, but have heard 3 or 4 of the daily Tour updates. Who do I write to at TMJ to tell them how much I like the segment and to tell them I'm all about feeding my pets Purina One* (if and when I have pets, that is....)?

:)

*I'm totally suckered in by on-air promos, as you can see.

Thanks.
I try.

I'm pretty sure I'm the only member of the media around here doing anything like this for the cycling community.

If by "around here" you mean the entire Midwest, then, yeah, I think you're right.

Thanks for promoting cycling, Hip.

No one else (I'm looking at you Lance Allen and Rod Burkes) is doing it. And it's right under their goddamn noses. There was a race in Shorewood five blocks from the station. Five blocks! You were there. The TV station could have walked a camera over there. And they must have interns. Send an intern. Make the intern figure bike racing out.

I just don't get the lack of TV time for Superweek. Even if they don't like or understand bike racing, it's a sport and they're supposed to be sports guys. There are world-class professional athletes from around the world here in Wisconsin taking part in a huge multi-day event. Friggin' feature a team or two. Feature a rider. There are stories there, and it couldn't possibly take more than a little work to find them. And if they can't stand bike racing, there are fit, good looking women and men in spandex. Where is the disconnect?

We're not that stupid in Wisconsin, are we? That we can't understand a sport that doesn't inolve the ghost of Vince Lombardi? Our media doesn't think we're that stupid? Do they?

Superweek really needs a PR/Media Relations person. Maybe that's it.

Sorry for the rant. You're doing a great job, Hip. And I want you to know that as a cycling fan, I appreciate it.

hmmm...too easy.... ;)

Perhaps if we made some cycling caps in the shape of cheese wedges?

...yes Hip...again...me with the cheese.

I'm afraid though that no one covers cycling anywhere really. Hip should be applauded for including it whenever possible.

Do you guys have reports available to you that tell you how many listeners turn the station when you start talking about cycling though? I'd be interested in knowing if your coverage is actually bringing in listeners. I have listened once or twice only because you were going to talk cycling.

One listener from BF does not a trend make, but I would be interested. The data could help those looking for sponsorship $$ as well.

They used to send cameras out. I've got news clips of races in Salesville, or Holy Hill back in the day when CBS had 30 minutes covering the 3 week Tour ! (thank goodness for rest days ... I get to see something else on TV for a day).

Edit: I get them back by changing the channel when they cover the Brewers.

Hip, good luck with today's Tour update.....

How are you going to explain that everyone's favorite attacking nutcase Vino is a blood doping punk?

I'm going to try...in the 3:00 hour prior to Fast Eddy at 3:30-ish.

JW...if you can get down to the station with your tape of the movie I'll have him sign it.
Let me know.

I can always have him sign something else for you if you want.

p.s.
The Vino thing is just flat out crazy....will ask Eddy about it too.

Nicely done. I recorded it, can provide it on CD if anyone outside listening range wants to hear it (WAY to big to upload or email). I'll catch Eddie sometime, I think he does the Downers Grove race as well.
