I sort of keep a log, but not a very detailed one. With all the talk about RAGBRAI 08 and sponsorship I was thinking about how many people will actually come through in the end. A training log might be a good way to prove to myself and other, that I am ready for RAGBRAI. If by next spring, I have actual numbers showing my performance gains, I can prove to sponsors that I am able to accomplish the entire ride and more importantly show myself that I am capable. Because I'm certainly not even close right now.
I know some of you other keep logs. What king of data do you record? Right now I record my exercise (bike, hike, jog, swim), time or distance and some poor notes about the intensity. For instance if I ride with my mom who rides really slow I'll make a little note saying, "rode with mom, slow". This may work for now, but it won't tell me a whole lot in 6 months. So I guess I'm looking for idea about how to keep a proper log.
This would also be a place for other to discuss their logs and RAGBRAI logs.

Spreadsheet works best for me. If you want, I can send you one.

There's also http://bikejournal.com/ (http://ridejournal.com/). I haven't really used it yet, but it might work for some folks.

Please do. Is it a riding log or can it be adapted for other activities as well? Thanks!

I can set it up however you like! It's just a bit of setting up[ macros, etc. I'll put it together with open office and can set it up either for Microsoft .XLS or .ODT/.ODS filetype.;)
I'm just tracking mileage there, and editing it for actual miles as I go. I'm being a bit more casual about recording strength training and walking. I hope the speed part will take care of itself (I like to go fast! :) Of course, right now 14 mph on flat is fast....), but I may focus more on that later if it seems necessary.

I don't log, I blog. So much easier to include ride data such as weather conditions or my feelings about the ride.

I found this link to an interesting article about training tapering over in Training & Nutrition - it's a long article, but points to cutting way back on training duration (90%!) right before an event, but keeping intensity high. Might be useful for those with planned out training schedules.

I think if time allows, I'm going to try to do at least a 400 mile week, about 2 weeks prior to RAGBRAI, then keep it short those last two weeks. Hard to believe it's possible, now.... :)

I just started to keep a log on mapmyride.com It's nice because you can map a route and share with others. It also has a bunch of different options for how detailed you want to get with your log. I will give it a try and see how it goes. Most likely I will slack off and just ride as much as I can...but you never know :)
BeckyW - I'll bet you have some GREAT riding in NW Arkansas! I know a bunch of motorcycle riders here that love to take quick trips down to the Bull Shoels(sp?) area.
