Koffee Brown asked me to post an introduction.
I'm coming to you from Portland, Oregon. I'm a regular bike commuter (life long--I started in elementary school...) and a 10-year member of the City of Portland's Bicycle Advisory Committee and the Bicycle Transportation Alliance of Oregon. My primary interest is urban cycling in all of its forms, including commuting, advocacy, cyclists' rights, sustainability and environmental issues, and, for the past year, justice for Critical Mass participants (the police for no apparent reason have been particularly rough on CM here in Portland since last August). Previously, I spent several summers as a teenager touring Nova Scotia and the Canadian Rockies with American Youth Hostels, and spent a fair amount of time touring solo in upstate and western New York. I'm also involved in planning and implementing International Car Free Day in Portland (this Sept. 22).
I found the bike forum through a post to Portland IndyMedia regarding responses to the Joyce Morrison article.
Hardware/Tech info: Bikes: Trek 7300 hybrid, Electra Commuter 7, Batavus B-1, Trek L400 Navigator, '84 Mongoose ATB. My wife's got a Kettler Elegance and a Batavus Flying Dutchman. My interests definitely tend towards Euro-style urban utilitarian bikes fully equipped w/ lights, fenders, racks, bells, baskets, etc. I'm also a big fan of Dynamo lighting systems and internal hub gearing systems.

Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
