One of my bikes (Evil Giant) has been through so many accidents and misfortunes. Hit by a car, slammed into a tree with me on it, ridden into a swamp, dropped down the side of the mountain, wiped out and slid down a steep gravel road, and ridden by my friend who is trying to lose close to 165 lbs.

http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o286/Flycrow/giant2-1.jpg

But it still is perfectly functional and still rides solid. Never an adjustment needed. Shifts nice and clean. No wheel out of true. No dents or gouges. Just scratches. Maybe its the steel frame. I dunno. I cracked a steel frame before so maybe that's not it. I think it just wants me to crash more.

What do you own that will outlive you?

You've obviously never let Jon ride it. :p

A pair of wool tights that I bought in Boston in 1984, or so. They now have a small hole at the seam of one ankle cuff and are starting to wear through at the crotch. The first is not worth bothering with, the second is a fairly easy fix (which I may not bother with because I never wear them without shorts or bibs underneath anyway). They don't stay up for poop on their own - but then, that's what suspenders are for. :D

Um, technically, you don't "own" her. It's that pesky 13th Amendment again.

We had a loach that lived about 25 years.

I have a Christmas cactus that I forget to water until it's all curled on itself. Then it shoots out blooms like you wouldn't believe! Then I forget to water it again, and so on....

Edit: That's a loach that resembles our Lolo on the left. And the Christmas cactus in it's severely dehydrated state on the right. I'll add a blooming pic, should that occur before this thread is buried....

A cheapo Wal-Mart microwave that I bought when I first moved out of my parents house and into my own place (around 1990). It's probably been through 7 or 8 moves in 17 years. I always said I'd get a smaller, nicer one if it died, but it just won't.

We have some rose bushes planted in the 50s by the house's original owner. The less I do to them, the better they bloom.

I know people who have gone through 4 or 5 in the time I've have 1! great that it's lasted this long, but now it's clunky with a way too small hard drive and I want an excuse to get a new one!

Arrggh! I have one that I left on the lawn one evening and it got drenched by the sprinklers. It only works half the time now.

I have a creative zen 20gb that has outlived all my friends' ipods. Unfortunatly the battery is starting to go kaput.

Hmm only a few things. The trek 930 frame is still going strong, I wonder why it hasn't cracked or failed on me yet. I have 3 major dents in different places on the frame. I have a black swiss army knife that was given to me when I was 11. I treated it like crap and it looks brand new still. I also have a leather quiver that is something like 30 years old, holding all my arrows. I don't really wonder why that hasn't torn or gotten messed up, I used to hang heavy things off of it, but it was made back when things were quality.

A Wallly World MTB. Used it for commuting for 3 years, been off roading with it, curb jumping, and generall abused it for 3 years. It won't die. I would try some jumps, but I know that's when it would finally give up the ghost and take me with it.

I have this golf ball...no, really. Its an old beat up range ball that somehow got into my bag. I can't lose the thing. In fact, the one time i did think i lost it, i came back to the golf course and found it a few days later while playing the same hole. There is no explanation...it just can't die.

Like KT I have a microwave from around '90. I really want one that mounts over the stove but I just can't get myself to spend the money until this one dies. But I'm not sure it ever will. It still works better than any of the ones at work or any others that I know of.

My H-P LaserJet 4L it just prints every time I hit the button. No jams, no missed paper pickups, just drop a cartridge in it twice a year. Had it since Hector was a pup.

+2 on the microwave. My grandparents gave me one for a gift for my first apartment back in '79. I've had it longer than my wife of 25 years this month.

LOL...that was exactly my thought too. I wanted an under the counter model, but this thing won't die. Every time I think its got a problem it turns out to be something simple.

My Keyboard.

I've been using the same USB Memorex piece since 1997.

I also have a 2003 Specialized Hardrock Pro that I've been trying to kill, but it just refuses to become nonfunctional, so I ride on.

Okay I'm one of those who is on the Chevy side of the Chevy/Ford debate but I must admit, Ford builds some pretty long lasting trucks. Their cars on the other hand, ehhh.

If the big 3 would build cars as well as they build trucks, they wouldnt be in the trouble their in. My 1998 Jeep Cherokee Sport is hitting around 200k. That 4.0l straight six is another world beater motor.

However, I own 2 German cars. Love them both. The big 3 just dont build a car that i would want to own.

The big three aren't even the big three anymore.

I believe that all U.S. Automobile manufacturers will be displaced by Honda and Nissan by the end of 2008.

Toyota is already on top.

I've got a GE electric fan, gotta be from the '30s or something... found it in the attic a couple years ago and have been using it pretty much everyday since in my un-airconditioned office. I oil it once in awhile, when it starts making squealing noises, but that's about it...

Also have some old appliances like a '40s percolator (mmm... nothin' like perk coffee) and a '50s travel iron, which I've used for everything from ironing clothes to removing wallpaper and wood veneer, still works fine.

And then there's my laptop... 8 years old, grudgingly running Windows XP, been dropped too many times to count, and the hard drive makes a disconcerting grinding noise (and has for 3 years now). Still holds 4 hours of battery charge and does everything I need a laptop to do. I even play Starcraft on it from time to time.
