I am so pissed I should have never messed with my brakes. Can someone please tell me how to at least get either the front or rear brakes working again on my mongoose hoop d

I unloosened the locking nut so I could pull the cable to make the brakes tighter. too bad it made them completly loose. they are side pull brakes

Try the park tools website, click on the brakes, under
repair help;)

Is "unloosened" the same as "tightened?"

OK, that helps.
First, there are actually 2 cables involved here. It looks like you may have cut the one that will be need to be replaced (sorry for the bad news).
There is a small cable, with a large piece of metal on one end that runs from one side of the brake to the other.
The cable that comes from the brake is where the triangular object with the bolt running through the middle of it attached to.
If you look at that triangular bit (the hanger) you will notice that there is an area on one side that can cradle a cable. The small cable that runs from one side of your brake to the other rests in there.
Give that a whirl and see if you can't get it from there.
