You can add "Will"...although he's not on the forum, he rode with Chinotex and I last weekend.

Also, spidermike posted earlier that he'll ride that weekend too.

8am sounds good to me

Is there something I should be aware of? Maybe I should get one of the 4 Texas Rangers living in Fairfield to join us on the ride. :D

Bluechip, no need to bring in the law. I was just joking around. But if deaf_j shows, you might need them. I've seen him ride. He can drop you so fast, it should be a crime.

Deaf_J, let me know if you wanna carpool or something.

Hey everyone, I'll be doing the Tour de Pink on September 9th in Prairie View. More info here: http://www.tourdepink.org

Maybe we can get a crowd together for this? Keep in mind you do have to raise $75 to participate.

It looks like we are going to get a chance of some thunderstorms later in the week but Saturday looks good so far. Maybe even a slight drop in the 100+ temps of the last couple of days.

So for Saturday its 8 AM at my house for a 46 mile ride through the Cypress area. http://www.toporoute.com/cgi-bin/getSavedRoute.cgi?routeKey=EYAARMDJSAHQCXS

Does anyone no how to print out a map of the route? It might be a good idea to have a few just in case anyone wants to break off on their own.

Any one planning on bringing a fixed gear on this ride? I haven't decided if I will do it fixed or not. I haven't ridden it in almost a month.

PM me for address and phone numbers.

I'm going to put together a cue sheet right now... is it right or left onto Schiel Road?

Bluechip
08-13-07, 08:53 PM
Leaving my neighborhood it is a left onto Schiel Rd. At around the 4 mile point it's a left turn at the split from Bauer Rd to Bauer Hockley Rd. Hope that made sense.

Thanks

So we are traveling clockwise?
I'm trying to work on a cue sheet.
Thanks, Jerry

Yes.
I guess that would have been an easier way to put it!

I won't be riding fixed.... I want to put some miles on my Brooks which is on my Bianchi roadie, and I haven't done anywhere near that mileage on my fixed gear, or a fast pace longer than 7miles. If we end up pace-lining, I wanna be able to hold my own.
If one of my buddies comes, he WILL be on a Surly fixed gear... it's his only bike that's in one peice. Although, he can hold his own... the fixed gear is a strength, not a handicap for him.

A quick and dirty map would be really nice... with that mileage, I'm guessing we'll be splitting off into groups. I think it would be nice to set up some pre-arranged rest-stops to regroup though, just not sure if the fast guys wanna cool down that much.

EDIT: Will won't be coming, so no fixed gear that I know of.

About the only two places to refill the bottles are at the 16 and 34 mile marks. The first is near the intersection of 2920 and 290. The second is on Magnolia Rd/Nichols Sawmill Rd were we turn right onto Roberts Cemetery. I usually carry two bottles and skip the first stop but lately I have been running out before I get to the second stop. So I would recommend everyone stop at both to keep the water topped off.

Any chance you want to PM those of us who are showing interest an address to your place? I think from the route map we can make our own directions :D . I'd prefer to not go knocking on your neighbors door though :o

I MIGHT have another friend coming along... just gotta check with him.

Count me out this time. While y'all are killing the roads, I'll be getting killed by a vet bill. Have fun.

Hopefully Erin will have pushed on through and will bring us some good weather by Saturday.

Yeah, we are flooded in our station right now...hoping to put our ambulances back in service at 1530 once the water goes down and we can start moving. Dean is suppose to hit us with the dirty side next week.

Flooded at the station.. awww. You missed all the fun along Vista behind Bayshore hospital. Yet another van in the ditch. I almost got anchored by floating cones and barrels. Should have rode my Kona Hahana to work.

We got a little rain this morning but it's dried up now. I'm getting ready to go for a ride! :D

The north side of Pasadena was a lot worse then the area around Bay Shore. I know that ETMC sunk one of their ambulances on the frontage road along Beltway 8. It was crazy busy the entire day...now we have to get ready for Hurricane Dean. :(

I did see one guy riding his mt. bike through the water on Strawberry.

Riding rain or shine?
I'll ride in either. Forecast looks like scattered T-storms. Fine with me, it'll be exciting instead of just drizzly :D As long as the host is rain or shine, I say we go for it. No pressure or anything Bluechip :p

I think I have another youngin' coming along. He should be able to hold his own though.... he's my friend's little brother, and has been doing the MS150 since he was like 12yrs old.

I'm kicking myself for not riding to work today... I thought it was supposed to rain Th/F, but now it's clear. :(

If anyone shows up I will ride. It's beautiful here right now. 86* and sunny. The forecast for Saturday morning is for a 50% chance of thunderstorms but that is what they said for today too. Riding in the rain isn't so bad. The Katy Flatland started out in the rain and it was kind of fun.

Bluechip, thanks again for hosting us this weekend, I think we all had a great time. As I got onto 290 on my ride back, I remembered that I had a whole bag of sliced oranges in my cooler that I meant to share at the end of the ride... I guess I was just too delirious to remember I had them there.

I'd be willing to have the next ride in Humble; there's a route around Lake Houston we could take... the only issue would be that there's a bit more traffic over here than there was in Cypress. I think it's about a 40 mile route, with none of those "inclines" that we had in Cypress.

Let me know what y'all think.

Humble sounds good to me. It was nice to put faces with the names on the forum. deaf j made it back by 12:30. I took a quick shower after everyone left and by the time I got out of the shower his car was gone.

Steve, thanks for hosting that ride...and the cold water at the end of the ride. I couldn't believe how long we were able to ride without seeing a single car.

Yes, thank you very much. I had a blast. It's been too long since i went on a ride that actually left my legs feeling tired. Normally, I'm a little tired, but feel fine the next day... I actually feel like I got a workout this time... and had a blast. I definatly vote to do that ride again. Water at the end was the icing on the cake... i wouldn't have though of that. You were also an excellent guide at telling us where we needed to be turning, and what to expect coming up.
