I tried to veer up onto the sidewalk, which at that point had a "ramp" down to street level (because it was coming out of a parking lot.) Unfortunately, I didn't notice until too late that the "ramp" was still at least an inch tall where it met the street. Down I went!

At least I remembered to release my cleats. I didn't hit the ground myself, just the bike.

Cars do that occasionally when I am biking but they do it a lot when I am crossing the street as a pedestrian. They stop, I go, they go, I stop, etc.

I like it when they are looking away from me as they roll slowly in front of me. It gives me that nice tingle in my shorts.

I don't know how fast you usually ride, but it seems like most drivers underesterimate how fast I'm moving. That can be very dangerous when drivers are turning in front of you! I got into an accident a few months ago where this lady took a left in front of me. If she saw me, she obviously didn't realize I was flying downhill at +25mph.

If there's any question, I put out a hand on the side the car is on, palm out in a kind of "stay back" sort of position. Maybe even move it back and forth a bit to drive home the point. Try to establish eye contact, maybe try to convey a question or a confirmation by your facial expression. In short, communicate. As others have suggested, move left a bit more if you aren't already, and if it's safe to.

That's definitely a factor - I have that problem when people are passing me as we're coming up on a red light. They don't necessarily realize that I'm going as fast as they should be, so they're forced to accelerate up to about 30 to pass in front of me so they have enough time to slam on the brakes and avoid rear-ending the last car in line. Idjits.

I've begun not only taking the lane there but riding left of center, which discourages this to some degree and keeps me safer, but they'll still veer into oncoming traffic for the privilege of beating me to a red light. Insane.

Wow, awesome! I'll keep that in mind - I don't think I move over *that* far to the left, although even making enough room to invite it is a bad idea. I definitely keep an eye on those morons with my handy-dandy mirror.

I didn't leave enough room. I was in the left tire track of a narrow curb lane. He passed me using the right tire track and a bus stop turnout.

All this with two empty lanes to the left of us.

I'd like to say this kind of thing doesn't happen very often, but I would be lying.

the last 2 times I was T-boned, both bozos stopped, looked directly at me, and at just the right time, went so they made contact. I asked both of them if they saw me and why they went and both responses were, "yes" and "I don't know"

My previous T-bone was not from the right as the others, but from the left, by one of those roll, stop, roll, stop across the intesection. His response was the same as the others.

I typically give the driver the most intense stare I can muster and get out of the saddle to accelerate.

Needless to say, it only works when you have the right of way.

one of the reasons I like to ride on the road is that, if I'm hit by a car, I make money (that is, if I'm in the right).

I don't understand how there are areas that don't have mandatory liability insurance for automobles. (there still are some area that don't require it, isn't there?)

Oh that's fantastic! Man, some people are retarded.

Where I ride, the bus stop doesn't have a turnout. Prevents the bus lane pass, but adds a whole other set of challenges.

One of my new pastimes on a bike is watching other motorists do dumb stuff to each other. Couple of days ago, I was making a right turn, when the van in front of me quite casually shot into the far lane on the turn, causing the traffic in that lane to take evasive maneuvers. Hi-larious.
