Hi Folks...
I'm looking for a single speed, coaster brake bike (sorta like the type that Van Dessel makes). I've looked all over the web and can't find anything other than "cruisers" which I most definately do not want.
If anyone could provide some info I would be very grateful.
If it's acceptable forum policy, please reply here...if not please email me at gdbird@marz.com
Thanks - David Bird (Birdman)

You could just get a coaster brake rear hub/wheel and put it on a normal bike. I dunno if there'd be problems with torque or anything, but I know for sure that there is one guy in Chicago who rides one (I've seen the bike but never had a chance to talk to the guy).

dumpster...thanks, but I would prefer to purchase from a dealer or builder...surely there is someone who manufactures or builds the type of bike I'm looking for....

Why coaster brake?

Any decent bike shop can build up a coaster brake hub/hub gears or whatever you want and fit it to a frame with horizontal dropouts. High performance lightweight frames with HDs are not that common new, but there are plenty of fine old road and touring bikes in this style.
Do you have a budget?

I don't know that I'm informed enough to have a budget.....or what is realistic...I'm thinking $200 or so, but again, I don't have a clue as to potential pricing.
I don't know if $200 is realistic. Especially if you want to by the bike off the rack. You're probably looking at about $500. But you could by a used bike at a garage sale for $25. Get a coaster brake wheel built for $150 (I'm guessing because I don't know how much coaster hubs are), and be in you're price range.
