...and become a sports journalist:

Actually, I think he still has some good years left to contribute on the pro tour, but I think this is one of the most eloquent articles I've ever read about the recent train-wreck and the whole general mess over the past few years.

I was present at the press conference yesterday when destiny decided to deal me that particular hand of being present when it was discovered that Vino was positive. Very rarely am I lost for words, but I was lost there for a moment, and it took me a good couple of minutes to find my feet. I hung around and answered questions for I don't know how long, but just as I was leaving I saw my friend Jeremy Whittle from The Times. He asked me if I was okay, and it was then I suddenly realized I wasn't and I actually broke down for a moment. It was the first time I didn't think I could do this anymore, and Jez was the only person present who has seen where I've come from and what I became and how I've changed. I think he was the only one there who recognized there was still a young boy who loved cycling underneath it all who had just lost one of his heroes. So I'm very sorry to whomever I hurt when you found out I doped, I now know what it must have felt like.

Vino you broke my heart. My wife's too.

Millar = Hypocritical Media *****

So, yeah, he would make a great journalist.

If he is so keyed in to the doping culture, why does a positive test floor him? It doesn't, it just gets him more camera time and ink if he says so.

BTW- Paul said that Millar is suffering from "Prickly Heat" in this morning's broadcast. If this is true, this has very little to do with the sun, and a whole lot to do with hygiene. And there is a cure (other than leg and arm warmers)... Brillo Pad!

I am curious to hear why so many people are willing to abuse the hell out of Millar.

Sure he cheated, but he got caught, confessed, served his punishment...

We should focus on stopping doping, not so much criticizing someone who has been on both sides of the fence IMO.

Getting Caught Red Handed isn't the same as Confessing. I think that is why people have the issue. If he hadn't tested postive he would probably still be doping.

Now on the flip side I think it is good to know what his fans felt like when they found out he was doping.

"Confessing" after getting caught...yes, Millar is noble indeed.

I understand what you guys are saying, but would you rather no riders are speaking out against it?

Change has to start from somewhere... :o

Problem isn't just the riders. They need to speak out against it, but lets face the fact that the lab being used is suspect. I mean they leak everything, and don't follow their own rules.

The entire system needs to be looked at.

Millar has to keep himself in the media to improve sales of the book he'll be selling in a year or two.

I don't doubt that he's a changed person as a result of getting caught, and I wouldn't say he's insincere, but there's grounds for suspicion that there's something else behind his recent flurry of outspokenness.

Maybe not noble, but he did "pay his debt to society." That may earn him a few points for having learned the lesson the hard way.

He better stop using f*** word in every sentence if he wants to become a 'team leader'.

I'm getting a little tired of Millars rantings as well, but I will give him credit after being busted he at least admitted he doped, payed the price and is commiting himself to a clean rest of his career.

I just wish that even once one of these guys would man up and admit what they've been doing. i'm really getting sick of this dog at my homework crap

Jerome Chiotti(sp) is the only one I know of who without ever testing positive let his conscience get the better of him came clean and gave back his MTB rainbow jersey. That deserves repect.

The people slamming Millar are too immature to handle the issues facing cycling. They are emotionally so under-developed that they have the "Little Johnny Syndrome" you see with so many Parents, especially with their oldest child.

"What - my little Johnny did what Mr. Principle? That cannot be true, Little Johnny would not do such a thing. I asked Johnny this morning if he ever hit anyone else and he said no. I beleive him...."

They just cannot handle the truth, for their entire world seems to come crashing down at the sign of corruption within the Tour.

Oh, so for nobility we should look to the Americans? Landis? Hamilton? Just lawyer-up?
People hate Millar because he is saying stuff we don't want to hear, people would prefer to believe in heroic myths.
He is the one proven authority of doping in racing. People should listen to him.

I for one like Millars attitude.. At least it seems genuine and he is not afraid to hit out at the system..
