the one thing that I notice a lot is that I dont push myself like I should. It is really hard to race against a watch all the time. Today I did the most hilly miles I have ever done with another rider from the forum. It was great (i say that now :-) but mostly the reason for it being good was trying to keep up with him. He was a good bit faster than I and much more in shape. So I would like to thank all the riders faster, stronger, etc than me for making me better. Its nice to have to try your hardest to keep up with someone, it teaches you a lot.

thank you :-)

Another good way to push yourself is to find a rider a long way in front of you and try to catch them. Happened to me this morning. I was out for a nice, easy recovery ride and saw a guy about a quarter mile in front of me. Finally caught up with him at the top of a small hill and we rode together for a while. When I got home, I found that I'd gone as far as I did yesterday and just as fast. I'm not that competitive normally, I just like to see if I can catch people.

I too have to thank those faster, stronger than myself. I ride with co-workers during lunch. They push me hard, up hills and on the flats. It certainly helps.

Well Spazegun- who'd you ride with? Don't hold back! Don't keep us in suspense! Give us the details about the ride, man!

Hey spazegun, I too had a good ride. that was the first time Id ever ridden with anyone. Must say, its pretty nice. Those hills in clifton were A LOT harder than I was expecting. You would be out of the saddle climbing for what seemed forever, get to the top, go slightly downhill, and be climbing another. I was afraid to go around turns because of the hills they might hide! Anyone in the area, if you have a sick sense of fun, go to clifton, spaze'll show you the way. I must say though, I think both of us came out of that ride with a sense of accomplishment...and relief that there are no more hills! Anyway, nice riding with you spaze, looking forward to it next week!

That's why Group Rides/Clubs are so much fun I think. You always get a good mix of riders so you can push yourself at different levels.

That's probably the #1 reason why I like groups rides over riding
by myself. If you're like me, I can talk myself out of working hard
if I'm riding alone. And the competition factor always makes things
a little more interesting.

My friend always kicks my arse uphill. Dunno how he does it, but he keeps me in shape, ever trying to get to his level of fitness.
