Sometimes I wonder what was going through Shimano's heads when they decided to run the shifter cables in such a non-elegant, messy way.
edit: One more thing, you might want to get rid of the license plate in your pic.

What goes through your head when yuou make decisions? A number of us have wondered the same thing for some time now.
But you know, in an oddball Pheard sort of way that I would never in a million years try to emulate, it looks kind of good. It certainly looks appropriate for you, Jon. I leave it to you to decide if that's a compliment or not.
The Derailleur cable (yellow housing) should run on the inside of the brake housing (white), and probably needs to be shortened a couple cm's.
P.S. - you need colored tires. one Yellow, one Green if you can find one, else... red?

It looks like your rear brake cable housing is a bit too long.
Eh, I'd rather have the cables run out there than under the tape for adjustment reasons.
you need to get fit to that bike.

Yes, I agree on both accounts. I noticed after I was finished that the yellow is too long and it needs to be on the inside.
Working on the tires next. My choices for next upgrade: kmc gold chain, two deep v rims, or tires. :p

It's fun, you should walk across the tracks and try it sometime.

Coming from you, I'll take that as a complement. Hey, next time we ride I might even let you sit on my rainbow love project. :p
If I had known what you had planned when you asked me for help in changing cables, I would have never said a word.
That is just wrong in so many ways.
And your saddle is nose down. Get a level on that thing.
And get some pastel colored bottle cages. If you are going to ruin the bike, ruin it all out.
And I am kidding on all but the saddle. I will always help you in any way I can.
As others have said, the bike suits you. And you did it yourself. Congrats.
now you need to slap a 100W light on there to match the 100W rider.

Heh, is that the OCP MTB'er way of postin' a bike pic? Small ring, big cog? :p
Jon, that bike actually looks kinda nice! I'm really impressed that you can change out your cable housings, etc., by yourself. Even if if they're a bit long, you did it! :)

Other than the right side handlebar tape, it doesn't look bad. That tape is just hideous and doesn't fit in with the rest of the bike. Maybe some Celeste tape would look better.

The bike suits you, Pheard. Not many people can pull that sort of thing off, but you're one of them. Personally, I'd be horrified to ride a bike like that, but I'd not be horrified to ride with you when you're on that bike. I imagine that in combination with your RL personality, it all fits together nicely. :)

:roflmao:
My deraillers are so out of whack, in my hardest gear my chain is on the biggest cog. :o
I ended up changing out one of the brake cables, and one of the shifter cables. The brake cable I used was a mtb one, so the little metal thing on the end didn't fit. I spent 20 minutes shaving off the metal so it would fit. :p I went to the lbs, the farkin' park tools cable cutters are 30, so I bought some heavy duty ones at home depot. They make ppperrrfect cuts. Also, whenever I clip a cable, it starts unwinding!!!! I now need to replace the other shifter and brake cable. But thanks, Jsharr, VV, and Cuda(and of course Siu for teaching me bar tape:) ) yesterday for trying to help me. Being mechanically ******** sure isn't one of the perks in being blond.

Thanks Donna. Ummm uhhhh The whole point was to horrify and amaze, I was trying to do that on purpose. Yea. That's the ticket.
I'm thinking right now it needs some metallic shades though. Definitely gunna do one of the rims gold.

Good call on installing the Jagwire inline cable adjusters.
Have you named this dayglow beauty yet?

Funny funny, I put them back on even though they do nothing without the proper ferrules.

Yes'm.
Suggestions on rim colors, much appreciated. :)

The bike so far looks like the easter bunny puked all over it. I think it needs some metallic. Gold and what other color?
Green. (just make sure you get the rims with the machined sidewalls for the brake surfaces btw)

G-d is going to strike you down for those pedals. I hope you realize that.

Pheard, if you do ever decide to try something new, come talk to me about PowerGrips on platform pedals. Colors are hard to find, but they do make them in shades other than black.

I have no problem with your color choices. But platform mtb clipless shouldnt be on that nice roadie

I like the green. But for some reason gold and orange appeals to me. Especially since I have no orange on the bike yet.

Nice colors, Jon. I think. ;) I say go for the green rims as well. Gotta have the green in there somewhere. :)
Goo' Lo'.
I don't know which color rims, just make sure they are two different colors, and like cuda said, machined. You know, so you can stop. ;)

Actually, the first thing I thought of when I saw the bar tape was that, with Giro d'Italia pink on the left side, Tour de France yellow would be the obvious choice for the right side instead of the schizophrenic stuff that's there now. Of course, given the really disheartening news coming out of France the last two days, maybe yellow isn't such a good idea any more. :(
Jon, is that pink tape the stuff I sent you?

No, you sent me celotape or something. I wanted to use cork tape. I still have what you sent me. Sitting on my tool bench. Trying to figure out where to use it. :p

Go find a tennis ball, and I'm sure we can put the tape to good use . . . .

Wow. Jon you did it. I'm proud of you. Honestly. And you didn't even need me to do it for you. So how do you feel about yourself? You are getting this bike to the way you wanted it. It may not be appealing to others but lemme tell you, it definitely is YOUR personality. And I like it. Because it IS your personality. Ride it in pride Jon. Rainbow pride.
PS. Now that you realize you don't need me as much it won't be so bad now that I won't see you anymore, right? ;)

Yes I'm proud of it. But I completely ruined the figure 8, it would have been so much more fun if we had done it together. I did actually email Sean about the getting the wheelset done, I think I'll do that next.
But I still need you!! You gotta sign it before you leave. :)

Jon, that bike is
A) The absolute ****ing ****!
B) Guaranteed to never be stolen
C) Should B fail, it'll be totally recognizable for recovery!
