View Full Version : Cofidis out of Tour

I think this will get the teams to internally police better. One person caught, whole team kicked out. Suddenly, the risk/reward for doping is much different. Sure, the risk of getting caught may still be low, but the consequences are huge.
I might as well be watching Survivor with my wife.

This is a great policy. I know it sucks for the clean riders caught up in the storm, but this will make teams think twice about signing former dopers or suspected dopers. Punitive is unfortunately the only way to deal with these jerks.

Right, that'll teach 'em.

:) ok, that was funny.
I'm entering the 2008 TDF..just stay clean, and there is a good chance my team will win.

don't forget making them think twice about storing blood, providing drugs or instructing their drs to help with doping regimens.

Seems like a good policy to me. Someone gets caught, he screws his whole team. Much different than just messing it up for themselves. And it puts a little bit of accountability with the teams.
I think many of the big teams with the huge budgets will be missing from the Pro peloton in 2008.
This God awful mess should be getting better but I can’t remember a year with more doping scandals.

Yes I believe the team managers are involved. I don't think the riders have time during the race. The police searced Vino's bus and didn't find blood. That implies that it got there later. How could he have done it without more help than just the doner?

A small but good thing...
Eric Boyer told Reuters: "He accepted his wrongdoing and did not ask for a B-sample."
It is about time someone just admited it...they just got caught!!

I would offer to join your team, but I would first have to get to a point where I could finish a mountain stage :D.

The odds of getting caught would have to be much higher than they currently are.
Given the inherent technological advantage the riders always have over the testers, I don't see how the odds of getting caught could ever be high enough (the riders have and use the latest methods often years before the testers figure out how to test for them).

Yeah, but riders and teams make mistakes too, which increases the possibility of getting caught. I suspect the Landis thing was a mistake in the sense that they didn't properly dope both types of testosterone, so that the ratio was off.
The Vino thing had to have been a mistake too - if you win a stage, there is 100% certainty of being tested, so my guess is that they either grabbed the wrong bag (probably labeled by blood type).

I used to think the "grabbed the wrong bag" thing happened with Tyler too. But, given that you can't really store that much of your own blood, autologous blood doping is pretty limited...
So, I think it could have been a gamble.
Vino may not have expected to win the stage.
Second, knowing you're going to be tested is not the same as knowing you're going to be tested for homologous blood doping. Do they do that in every test? Do they test for all the dozens of banned substances in every test? Or is it random? If random, then maybe Vino was gambling that a) he wouldn't win the stage, and b) that if he did win the stage, that the homologous blood test would not be one of the tests that they would do.

1998 was worse - crazy amount of teams left including:
- all the Spanish teams
- TVM
- Festina
So 2007 has two teams out already... what's next?!?!?

Rabobank.
Sh*t that was quick. No sooner did I type '2007 ain't as bad as 1998' and Ras is now out of this year's Tour.
This is crazy.
