From the bottom of the Alpe-D'Huez stage, who finishes first?

godspiral

Ras is better than he was 2 years ago, and finished side by side with him in a tough stage, but I don't know how hard Lance had to push himself that day.

Yup.
It's a heck of a question.
Anyone else want to take a stab at this one?

If anything Lance would just out sprint Ras at the finish.

Is Ras on the list of top finishers on it? Pantani is 1, Lance is 2.

SunSwingsLow

TT style or Regular Bikes?

Id have to take LA in both anyways. He has a nasty competitive streak that leads me to believe he wouldnt let Ras get away form him. Id say if they did it 5 times it would be a draw 3 times and a LA victory on the other 2.

I agree. I think Pantani v. Lance would be a better battle.

Who's got the better doctors?
Is that even a question? I am a huge Armstrong fan but every day that goes by it seems more and more clear you aren't going to challange for the top of the TdF without help. IMO Disco has had the best doctors for some time...and I am SURE they are all focused on cancer research. :(

Also, what's the deal with the Alpe D'Huez worship? If you want to man-up, try the Monte Zoncolan (length: 10.1k, gain: 1203m, avg: 11.9%, max: max: 22%).

Alpe d'Huez worship is about it holding 1M people on fat roads with tourist facilities. All the HC climbs of the past 3 days were harder, I think.

How about the Angliru? I keep hoping that the Vuelta organizers include it but they never do anymore. It makes the Zoncolan look like a category 2 climb.

Maybe you should think about it before posting. Alpe D'Huez 'worship' is not because of the elevation or length, but of the legendary races that took place there!

Marco beats them both.
Nothing agaist LA, but he ONLY raced le Tour.
God points start with a Giro/Tour double.

Wow, thank you for the history lesson, I guess I am completely ignorant. I guess there were no other "legendary" races in the first 70 years of the tour of the Tour because it only saw Alpe D'Huez once. I guess every other climb in the last 30 years pales in comparison. Nearly all of the greatest riders of the Tour never won on Alpe D'Huez, I suppose that adds to the legend. I guess "legendary" rides are done by non-GC riders.

The hype about that hill is based on one or two great performances in the last few years, with absolutely no basis in history or legend. It is all marketing BS and shows the painfully short memory of the public.

Sorry, but the 'lelgendary' IS decided by the public, not you. I think that Giro d'Italia is a great race, but most of the public (that doesn't include only cyclists) doesn't care about it as much as TDF.
Stage 10 of 2007 Giro d'Italia was one of the best I've ever seen, but I'm cyclist and do care about this.
Anyway, the thread was about Armstrong vs. Rasmussen that are not related in any way to Giro d'Italia.

I guess it is too much to ask a cycling enthusiast to consider there may have been some great races before the Lance era and there will be some after.
