With all that is going on, I'm wondering, is viewership up or down this year?

I was planning on hitting a sports bar to watch today's stage, but with all the news, I'm definitely watching Versus tonight!

It’s sad, I watched the race earlier this morning and the announcers didn’t sound like their enthusiastic selves (granted, they weren’t crying and moaning or anything) but the tone seemed forced. Maybe I’m reading too much in the tone of their voices (or maybe I was looking for it) but I didn’t feel the honest excitement I usually do today.

No, it's not you. I certainly felt the same way today when watching on VS. Phil and Paul didn't seem to have the same pop as before. I guess you can't blame them.

Yeah, you certainly can’t blame them because every time they blissfully cheer for a rider "showing tremendous heart" or who "rides like a beast" they have to add a ticker banner at the bottom saying "forget everything you are watching/hearing because in the last 6 hours everything changed. Go to VS.com to see the latest bad news"

I don't think they are going to do any updates or live but simply rebroadcast this mornings show. I just flipped it on to see Ras win and they said nothing (it was recorded) about the scandal. There was a trailer across the bottom of the screen that said tune in TOMORROW morning at 8:30 for the latest on the doping scandal.

Yeah, same with yesterday. Seems like they could have thrown the crew together for an evening hour show to talk about the Astana/Vino situation. Makes me wonder if they'll make more that a momentary comment on everything during the "enhanced" show tonight.

Phil (I think) made a comment the other day about the viewership numbers being very good indeed.

someone once said that there is no such thing as bad publicity.

"US ratings are complicated by the VS. coverage, with afternoon, prime time, and late night reruns, but live program viewer impressions are up 5 percent. Live household ratings have fallen 8 percent, so apparently, more of us are watching the reruns this year. A blurb in the New York Times notes that VS. web video views are up 25 percent."

The above from MediaPost.

As bad as it is, everyone loves a scandal... I don't know if I'd be able to watch anything about Paris Hilton, though.

Good point. This may actually HELP ratings in the States!
