Ugh, is anyone else watching Lance being interviewed by Chris Matthews on Hardball talking about the Tour? Now I've seen everything. Chris Matthews' ignorant ass is suddenly an expert on "that guy from Keh-zik-staaan."

The title of this thread is very clever.

I'm recording it. Yesterday Matthews said Armstrong would have an announcement today on Hardball. Did he announce anything???

Everytime I see some ignoramous (Leno, Ann Curry, John Stewart) ask questions of Armstrong, I cringe at Armstrong's answers almost as much as at the questions themselves. He seems resigned to the notion that they'll never get it, and doesn't even bother to try to really explain anything.

Armstrong is coming out of retirement

That he and Matthews will co-host a presidential debate on health care.

Matthews is such a hack its painful. He NEVER asks followup questions on the tough topics.

To elaborate on the debate mentioned above:

The LIVESTRONG Presidential Cancer Forum will be a historic event that puts cancer on the same national stage as other tough questions our country faces. If the candidate are discussing taxes, terrororism and education, they should also be discussing the country’s number one killer of people under 85.

The LAF has extended invitations to all candidates to join this historic LIVESTRONG Presidential Candidate Forum. As of today, Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton, Senator John Edwards and Gov. Bill Richardson will participate in the the August 27th Democrats LIVESTRONG Presidential Candidate Forum. Senator Sam Brownback, Governor Mike Hukabee and Governor Tommy Thompson will participated in the August 28th Republican LIVESTRONG Presidential Candidate Forum.

I wish Armstrong would go away. He is the shining beackon to all dopers about the benefits of doping (i.e. - fame and fortune), directions on how to deny and intimidate, example of how to work the press, as well as offering none of the downside of getting caught.

He is a weasel.

Agree. That's why he's being touted as a future politician. He owes the powers-that-be for protecting him.

Agreed. Its a little much to have Armstrong speak about Doping, its like asking Kissinger to talk about human rights.....

I saw part of it.

Matthews was Matthews, with the added bonus of him discussing a topic (cycling) he knows little about.

He asked Armstrong how far he had ridden today. Armstrong said about 50 miles. Then Matthews asked how Armstrong could ride that far without getting tired.

A bit later Matthews tried to sell his bicycling credentials by proclaiming that he had a paper route once upon a time. It was funny.

That might be the most unintentional comedy interview of the decade. Mathews only knows how to report on the conventional wisdom of Washington for the day. I hate Russert, but at least Russert appears to have a brain on his head and hates Tweetie Bird. Mathews is nothing more than an unintelligent hack.

"50 miles, how did you do that".

The only good part is that Armstrong has to work with that fool. The two jerks deserve each other.

100% great analogy. It saddens me that the media is too afraid to really go after this guy. He is a big reason WHY guys dope and evade authorities. Because look at the rewards. Do you think the Chicken would have done what he did unless he felt the reward exceeded the cost. The guy was 32. Andy Hampsten has stated that for the most part, after 32, your body cannot recover fast enough for the Grand Tours. This really was the Chicken's one chance.

Oh well.

Do you guys find no redeeming value in that he decided to fight cancer after surviving the disease, and is using his position to benefit this cause?

I thought Armstrong would announce he is coming out of retirement. It is clear that of the guys that were considered the "top twenty" contenders to win the Tour de France a year ago, only three or four are likely to show up at the 2008 Tour de France untainted by the various drug investigations...so, Lance can announce he is coming back to win the new "clean" Tour de France. So, forget this year's messed up Tour. Next year, Lance will be back.

I watched it. I thought the part about "that guy from Kazakhstan" was very revealing when Armstrong noted that since this test/control was well known since they busted Tyler Hamilton for it, Vino should have known not to use that method. I thought it was revealing about how Armstrong thought about these things... Very Michele "It's not doping if the tests don't say it is" Ferrari.

I do. I think it's a little disingenuous, but he's running with it, and I do give him credit for that. Or maybe it's how he justifies what he did in order to get the prominence that he now has and uses for this noble purple. The end justifies the means, eh?

Yep, the ends totaly justify the means and pointing out that Vino should have know better only reveals that a professional cyclist acually knows what his former teammate was caught doing.

Really, Vino was an idiot if he did it, I dont think saying so implys a stance on doping as much as shows a level of understanding of doping similiar to that of any Real Sports viewer.

You watch MSNBC?

You can send Christmas cards to MSNBC watchers.

Pretty funny responses on this thread. Cost me a whole cup of coffee...there are a number of "Chris Matthews wannabes" here. Diff is Chris gets paid.

Which would be the same as the majority of the posters in the racing and Tour forums...:)

I was going to post the exact same thought. Take Mathews out of the Beltway and he is like a fish out of water. Best Mathews quote, "I know all about biking, I had a paper route when I was a kid" and "What town are we in?"

Armstrong's legacy?

In deeds and in words, the two most notorious cheats of this years TdF emulated (Vino with Ferrari) and invoked (Ramussen on Armstrong in press conferences: I admire him more every day) Armstrong. How come Matthews did not ask him about that?

That is because deep down, Mathews can comment only on what he over hears at the evening social/cocktail parties.

I mean - when he follows a Presidential race, he almost never covers the issues, never tries to break down a candidates position on the economy, how we will get our of Iraq, how we will deal with Iran or a candidates health-care plan.

He covers the horse race. Who is ahead, who has the mojo etc...

not defending Armstrong in the least but,

shining beackon to all dopers about the benefits of doping
geez I didn't know there was an LA school of doping, nor that he invented it.

Vino and Armstrong were never teammates (to my knowledge).

And I believe the Rasmussen quote about admiring Armstrong is in reference to the
press, the allegations etc. (of course that was made before Ras was canned), De Rooy said
almost the same thing.

It's sort of like you posting about cycling. It's like asking a four year old how to do long division.

You post about tactics, get hammered due to your complete lack of knowledge, then abandon the thread.

It's hilarious.
